Explain Icarium's story line for me.

Okay, colour me confused.
What the hell happened with Icarium at the end of the book? He found a machine of his? Something about K'rul? Cutting his arms open? The city falling apart?
I've been doped up on cold medicines all weekend so my brain powers are weak. Someone less hazy please explain it all for me.
Thank you.

He, urr... walked into his machine. And started it up, but it was broken.
You know, he may well be dead

Yes, he walked into the machine. He knew it was broken. It burned stuff. Apparently stole memories (from the guy whos name escapes me that had the 12 artifacts, connected to where they were on the city, and he went out to see the one from behind the farm, which lit up, fell over, crushed his legs, stole his memories, and started burning him. By the time he died he was 'no longer human' or something of that sort...).
Also, lets not forget the 'house' that collapsed when Iccy walked off the ship onto the docks. I think, if I'm putting this together correctly, that house being destroyed damaged one part of Iccy's machine, which is why it went haywire. The question is, who/what/why did this get destroyed? Errant? Elder Gods? CG? GIVE ME ANSWERS SE! TotH by July!
So, either Iccy sucked and now has memories from numerous different people, had all his sucked out again and is fresh, is dead, or most likely something else completely random that will only make sense once it is explained.

Scale House, wasn't it? The Rat Catcher's Guild.

I am really really hoping that Icarium lives, and somehow he now has the memories and personalities of Senior Assessor and the Taxilian. I was really pissed off when they died.

Hmmm, I blame the Errant. Never mind that he had nothing to do with it.

Yes Scale house. You think the Rat Catcher's guild destroyed it?

Hmm - very unlikely. I don't see there's any way they'd know what it might do, and certainly have no reason to.

Oh, I thought you said in answer to what house was destroyed, scale house, and who destroyed it, rat catchers guild.
Ok. Excellent.

Then again, it could be all part of Tehol's diabolical plan - you never know;)

My pile of crap
It seems that Iccys time measuring devices (temporal maps) are used to possibly absorb memories. Or if not them then all these machines Iccys got lying around by all his maps drain all the memories from their victims. This makes sense in way with iccy being obsessed with time and his own memories. Possibly he tried to create a machine that took all the memories from ppl but didnt kill them. But as it was broken it did kill them. Im only bringing this up as Iccy doesnt seem the type to absorb memories at the expense of thousands of lives. He did this to compensate his own lack of memories and his temporal maps hold the memories of whoever touched them.
This honestly feels like bollocks as soon as im writing it.
Anyway another theory ive got is linked to Krul and that Iccy using his blood to power his machine (like Krul) previosly tried to replace warrens with machinery. Sort of like the Dark Tower series where the Prim recedes and the elders use machines to compensate. This possibly could refer to Krulturning Iccy away from such ideasand his machine possibly could possibly be meant to kill people to take their souls and memories to power this new artificial warren.
Another possible theory ( i cant remember much about the link with Krul and Iccy) is that Iccy was using his machines to help heal Kruls crippling
wound when he drew Kallors death realm into himself. Krul ' realising this would take too many worshippers lives refused and therefore betrayed Iccy
What am i on about.

Iccy's machine COULD have taken Veed's memories, giving him almost the full story on his manipulation by the Nameless Ones... IF Veed hadn't had his brain smashed flat by a building.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

maybe that was the point. Iccy would receive all the senior assessor memories which would mean he would know all the memories of his worshippers.

Now I'm absolutely positive Ormly mentions it to Rucket at some point (very soon after Iccy gets off the boat) that they meant for it to fall down. Of course I could have completely misread that bit...

I cant believe that after all the build-up and constant going on about Icarium, how powerful he is, how he's destined to do all this, etc etc, that SE would just kill him off in such an anti-climactic and pointless way as a collapsing building and a broken machine.
If he has, then quite frankly it's a travesty. SE doesnt seem to be the sort of author to make such abysmal fuax-pas, especially after the way in which WJ, the BBs in Coral, Toc, etc died. So Ihave to believe Iccys alive and coming back, in which case Taxilian and Rautos' memories have to have some sort of effect.

It would be rather amusing though - the single most powerful being in the world, killed due to some rats nibbling at foundations.
A lesson there in scale, don't you think?

I can see it being a deliberate writer's strategy for a person plagued by a transient memory to be transformed into a person plagued by the memories of thousands of other people. Would make for some very interesting scenes. Especially if it annoys Icarium.

Yes and Tehol and Bugg were observing Taxalian at the Scale House at one point. Bugg at least is aware of Icarium's machine (and presumably what it will do) and I think that Bugg took some steps to prevent whatever mayhem would have occurred had the machine worked. Though it was never clear to me if the damage to the machine was due to the Scale House collapsing or 'I forget his name at the moment' who was excavating artifacts (and removing them) that were part of the machine.
I find it highly unlikely that Icarium is dead - more likely the machine transported him to a warren of some sort (the references to Krul indicate a connection to the warrens is likely) and with all the time references I would guess that time tranportation is strong possibilty. When, where? I'm not sure, but another interesting link would be the KCCM who are rather mechanically inclined and seem to be coming into play. Hmm...I'll have to think on a possible Icarium-KCCM connection.

This does, of course, make the most sense.
