Just finishing re reading House of Chains in my run up to Reapers Gale.

I quite like the two characters Loric and Osric. Something about the unfathomable history between the two but the still simple if slightly strained father son relationship.

What i want to know is if Osric was " Lost " within that dream world how did he suddenly come along at the right time to save his son when he was stabbed in the back by that Talon?

Was the whole of Rakaru at that point upon an ancient dream or memory that Osric had been trapped in for some time and subsequently so was the Whirlwind Goddess?

It seems highly likely but slightly fortuitous if so.

I hope to see more of both of these characters and in fact the Liosans if only to see the smarmy goits get theirs. Perhaps a Leg Drop from the top er.... Azath tower would do it?

I digress but its all salvageable because i flexed words in here like fortuitous. I'm not even old! Get me.

Just off to bingo!

All the eights! Two fat Kruppes!
"I think i was a bad person before. Before this time. I do not try to be good now but i am not bad. Perhaps if i try harder i may get a better hand dealt next time? But surely that makes it pointless? Perhaps i am good. Just good at being pointless. But that would make me bad. Bad at having a point. Ah…. I see now. I was nothing before, I am nothing now. I am bad purely because im pointless. "

Osric wasn't trapped, he just doesn't care about the outside world and likes being a hermit.

Blood, and the spilling of it, is seemingly the most powerful single thing in the Malazan universe. Especially among Ascendants who've been around that long. Enough to jolt him back to his senses, anyway.

8 points go to RUSSIA!

Well.

Enough said.

Blood seems to be by what binds. The whole indifferent thing of Osric to his son is believable but its convienient he was there when mattered no?

Terry is pi$$ed. Apparantly serbia is winning?

Sorry Spelling

It's not known who his mother is at this point.
There's more than enough to come in the books you haven't yet read to keep speculation high on that topic.
and yeah.. if I were L'oric I'd be pretty annoyed at not getting any nice flappy wings too :p

I'd always assumed that Mother Dark was his mummy- after all, arent all the Tiste children of MD, even the Liosan? And, as L'oric is Liosan, I just assumed....

Although now you mention it, if it is MD then the lack of a soletaken form for L'oric seems suspicious, especially as her other kids like Silchas, Anomander et al are dragon soletaken.

"Children of Mother Dark" doesn't mean they're all her actual children, TT. That would be silly :p

Was Osserc a Soletaken when L'oric was born? Would he even want to be one?
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

I've read up to Bonehunters and cant remember any other mentionanasisation about Loric and Osric. But that isn't actually saying much as I'm having to re read all of them again because I've just forgotten the lot.

Its an age thing. Like making up new words.

I mention the whole soletaken / Dragon thing because even as a basic isn't Osric within the Draconian family tree?

Now I'm with Hetan on this. Id be like, " WHERE THE FUDGE ARE MY WINGS DADDY AND ILL PUT THE RUBBISH OUT TOMORROW FOR THE LOVE OF ACTUAL GOD STOP GOING ON! " ( All said in the most whiny voice imaginable, head thrown back and foot stamps a plenty. All the while looking for the nearest object to luss at the wall )

Luss? I'm doing it again.

Well most likely L'orics mom isn't all that powerfull, seeing as L'oric is probably the weakest born ascendant we've seen so far.

Its probably one of the things we will never find out.

Fairly annoying like stubbing your toe.

Well, urm... it is. Hereditary, that is. But not always.

Impossible to say why without spoilers from Midnight Tides though.

I seem to remember that Lorics powers were described as being more subtle and passive - like healing and preserving and stuff... perhaps his mother is the QoD?

Omras, just guessing once again

Now there speculation. A high possibility given their previous er friendship.

Good call!

Best suggestion I've heard yet, L'oric definitely seems to be of the QoD mould, more pensieve and less violent/aggressive.

There would also be the drama of the relationship between the QoD and Osserc. Wasn't QoD once a traveling partner of Rake? A rival of Osserc. Or did Rake, Osserc and QoD all travel around together back when she was mortal?

I remember there being two stories of Rakes travels.

Well it would be cool if Osserc stole Rakes woman and sheboinged her :)
