The real reason Tehol is still alive?

Is because he is still holding on to the economy of Letheras? I mean Bugg is loveable and such, but he is a God.
Is Tehol just being used? Or did Bugg really love him as much as to reveal his identity, send Theredas to his world for punishment, and let the world know he is still here?

So my question is, is Tehol just, in reality, being used like so many others have been throughout this series?

Idk if this would count as a spoiler, so better safe than sorry.

I think that Bugg's emotional reaction when he sensed Tehol's peril is enough to say decisively that he cares for the man. Sweet, isn't it?

No spoiler worries, this forum is for people who've read the book already.

Remember the conversation Bugg had earlier, where he admitted that being with Tehol made him happy and gave him a purpose that eternal life as an Elder God did not?

He saved him because Tehol was his friend, simple as that.

Well, it's Tehol who decides to save the tribal people of letheras, using all the money he's gathered. Bugg, at least until the very end of the book, doesn't give a crap about the people of lether and the rest of the continent.

Bugg is just a sucker for Tehols charms and he'll help him fight for his cause, I doubt he's on the "Save-the world"-bandwagon.

I doubt it too. He's an Elder God so I doubt he cares much for Letheras' gold, either. He was super pissed when he saw Tehol getting smashed up -- a reaction far more emotional than say, if he saw some one pouring Lether gold down a drain. They're buddies, and woe if you mess with Tehol.
I just don't want to be around when one of them gets a girlfriend ... it could cause "smooch" problems.

Thats what I was thinking. Perhaps Mael, being a god, and knowing Erikson's way of making gods use people (I.e. Gruntle and Treach, as well as Ghosthands) thats Mael, despite his "love" for Tehol, will infact use him, or make him do something to say "even the score"

Excuse me, but Tehol wears a sheet, not a skirt. There's a difference.

Why does no-one remember what Mael was like in MT? He didn't care about his godly duties any more, he doesn't collect debts or expect things of his followers. For all intents and purposes he's just a lonely guy with one good friend, and it's not really relevant that he is an Elder God.

All he was interested in was living with Tehol and having a good time, and I think that's unlikely to change in the next books.

I don't know that I would say that his godhood wasn't relevant. Perhaps it hasn't been for a very, very long time, but I think things are changing. He did, after all, answer Withal's prayers. :) He also said that he had things for him to do, which might fall under the category of expecting things of his worshipers...

I can see him getting involved in things again. He was already involved to some extent with the Ceda, though it seems the Ceda might not have known exactly who he was. Personally, I doubt that. And things are heating up in Lether.

The Ceda knew exactly who Bugg was.

That was my thought. :) He called him Bugg, but the Ceda seemed to me like the kind of guy that knows stuff.

Point being, Tehol isn't the entire world to Mael. He's just the only thing keeping Mael going. That particular source of inspiration doesn't preclude involvement in other things, obviously.

And Tehol is not skinny, though by his diet, he should be. He's got the Beddict build. :)

Yet, at the end of MT he did get back to his duty, after finally hearing that swordmaker's prayers (Withal, IIRC).

Also, I'm not sure how the chastising by that Guardian (the one who took Brys and killed Rhulad) has affected Mael...

(I just started rereading MT though, so forgive me if I forgot something there, since it's been awhile :) )

Mael is an Elder God and they have a habbit of returning to action. When war explodes, he'll be obligated to get stuck in.

My impression of Tehol from the descriptions and all makes it somewhat unlikely that he would classify as... skinny..

The only one with more impressive muscles is his older brother

To be honest I just thought that the muscles was a joke.

I really doubt that Tehol, while sleeping on his roof and pretending to be a bum would be better muscled than both Hull and Brys, who are fighters.

If he still is, I want to know his secret.
