The real reason Tehol is still alive?

Tehol mentions that both Bugg and himself should never have been in such grand health from the little (and BAD) stuff they were eating... to me that means Mael sustained and nurtured Tehol with his godly powers - why should an elder god have a friend who is not in top-shape?

I really doubt that Tehol, while sleeping on his roof and pretending to be a bum would be better muscled than both Hull and Brys, who are fighters.
If he still is, I want to know his secret.

Tehol's muscles were described in the book. He comments on it himself, since his diet and activity would make a normal person a fat slob.

But people... the two of them hardly make a comment in the book that isnt ment tongue in cheek or is said with out sarcasm dripping down the walls. When you think of the lifestyle they've maintained and their wiews on appearance (meaning I dont think they give a crap about it) I really think that the muscles are ment as a joke.
He might have a distinct muscle tone from being skinny, but are you actually picturing Tehol Beddict as a muscular man?
What is he ?.. the intelligent hulk?

My guess on Tehol's build would be, you know Bruce Lee-ish.
Hes not big, but hes got enough definition to call them as such.

That I could agree with, slightly less developed and without the pecks of course

Same here.
Also, Brys mentions that of the three of them, Tehol resembles their mother the most. I know that doesn't prove anything on physical build, though.
But, Tehol standing out as more muscular than Hull or Brys doesn't seem to be agreeing with his MO, of being as invisible (or openly miserable/useless) as possible, when the rest of Lether is concerned.

Well to look useless, clothes make the man.
And heck he was wearing a skirt, or pants with mismatching legs, lived in a house that was basically empty (except on the roof).
So hes got that image down easily.

Hey, Tehol's trouser were a fashion statement!
It will be interesting to see how Tehol and Mael appear in the future, as it seems that MT's timeline closely coincides with the end of MoI; they've had some time to work with.

Maybe speedos with a potato shoved down them -- down the front, shoved down the front, of course.
Get to the chopper!

A big muscular person wearing a skirt and rags is still a big muscular person. Meaning, that person would still stand out.

just a question -- on page 1 people were discussing if mael was going to get involved-- i thought when mael kicked the CG's tent that was being involved and do you think that in turn flooded raraku-- now that it is flooded and was supposedley a fragment the CG wanted are these linked?

I do think that Mael is getting involved, but regarding that being the cause of flooding Raraku...
I don't think so, but I don't have a lot of reasoning behind that. My main justification comes from TBH, so I'll just say Felisin Younger and leave it at that.
But basically, no, I don't think Mael affected the CG's claim on that piece of the warren.

What about the thing where the Guardian touched Tehol's hand with Bry's and transfered some 'names'. I think its because Brys picked up something from his journey that the Ceda put him on that made him valuable to Mael and probably the other gods.

Brys was remembering the names of the forgotten gods that the Guardian guarded (how clumsy does that sentence sound?). He passed that on to Tehol. So that's all, Tehol knows their names now.

Quick question regarding Mael's involvement:
What was the point if his discussion with Gothos after the huge Tiste/KC battle? He asked Gothos to "preserve" instead of just clean it all up--why? My impression was that he has or had some plans, and being an Elder god means his plans can be millenia in scope.
So, did the events in MT show us the fruition of some plan, or was it just the beginning?

well, one thing is that the jaghuts magic(ice) seems to be a "preservation" type of magic.. easier to tell a an ice-mage to do what he knows than tell him to be a janitor. he also is a historian of sorts, so preservation of history could be involved there as well

yeah, Mael's probably being sentimental as well.... judging from his relationship with Tehol. Though I guess the ice trapping the dead might not have been in his calculation.

@Paladin:
I got the distinct impression that Gothos was not planning on preserving anything, and didn't start that part of the ritual till Mael asked him. Mael put himself in Gothos's debt, which is interesting in itself, IMO. I wonder if we'll see the resolution of that.
