I have been reading these forums for the better part of a year but I have never registered. Now I finally have and I am happy to be here.:D

Anyways, I have been looking around the Canadian e-tailers for a pre-order of Reaper's Gale and was surprised to have found that it will be available in both hardcover and trade paperback on April 24, 2007. As you can see here:
http://www.amazon.ca/Reapers-Gale-Malazan-...ie=UTF8&s=books
And here:
http://www.amazon.ca/Reapers-Gale-Malazan-...ie=UTF8&s=books

The same listings can be seen on the Chapters website. They seem to have Toll of the Hounds up for pre-order as well.

I have yet to see a Steven Erikson hardcover book for sale here in Canada. Is this a new direction for SE's releases?

Hm these are the Bantam Press releases from the UK. There have been Hardcover Versions of SE's books since the release of House of Chains. The first three Books only received Trade Paperback releases.

Hope that helps.

Thats what I thought.....after all the other books were released here in Trade Paperback, I'm pretty surprised that this one is suddenly being released as hardcover at the same time.

The reason Books 1-3 were released in just Trade Paperback is because back that SE was still a pretty unknown quantity. By House of Chains his popularity had reached sufficient heights to warrant hardcover releases of the novel...but they also kept the trade paperback versions going, because you know there are those collector fans who want the same version...ie me...lol

Does the format really matter all that much? I mean I respect the fact that some people want their books the same size, but me personally I couldnt care less, the content is still the same so...
I have stolen princesses from sleeping barrow kings
I have burned the town of Trebon
I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life
I was expelled from the University at a younger age most people are allowed in
I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during the day
I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make minstrels cry
You may have heard of me....

You won't find the hardcovers in store because it is cheaper for the retailer to purchase the trade paperback copies. If you're looking for hardcover, purchase via the retailers online shop.

Well I was speaking from a Toronto view point. Personally I haven't seen any hardcovers and I've been to the biggest Indigo/Chapters in Toronto. Not saying they're not out there...just I haven't found any.

I think this time around its same for all countries. In any case if its not the same, the UK should expect to see it in stores around March 24th...Canadians should look out for early released copies in stores 1-2weeks before April 24th. Everywhere else...just keep popping in to your local bookstore.

I was able to get my copy of TBH in February last year, so hopefully it'll be in shops around the 18th of March this time. Finishing it and gloating was so satisfying I want to do it all over again! You can really see why Pallor enjoys the taunting so much.
Hello, soldiers, look at your mage, now back to me, now back at your mage, now back to me. Sadly, he isn’t me, but if he stopped being an unascended mortal and switched to Sole Spice, he could smell like he’s me. Look down, back up, where are you? You’re in a warren with the High Mage your cadre mage could smell like. What’s in your hand, back at me. I have it, it’s an acorn with two gates to that realm you love. Look again, the acorn is now otataral. Anything is possible when your mage smells like Sole Spice and not a Bole brother. I’m on a quorl.

Taunt me at your peril Illy....well, sure, there's nothing I can do about it, but I'll be bloody annoyed.

*shakes fist menacingly*

I really should get it in hardcover because I know I'll ruin it with hundreds of readings, but I dont want the extra weight while I carry it ont he train or bus and things like that. Maybe I'll get both, one for the collection, one for reading.

I tend to prefer Trade Paperback over Hardcover, for ease of reading. It's hard to read in bed with a Hardcover book. They sure look nice on the shelf, though.
