Read the promo chapters. Whee fun! Love that they manage to ref Indiana Jones, Herbie and Calvin & Hobbes in short order. Charity still rocks as a character.

Apt, Dresden books are much much fun and you should definitely give them a try.
It's going to be particularly good few months on the book front.. first the Last Argument of Kings, then Small Favour and then double doze of Malazan goodness.

I just picked up the first book in this series. I abandoned Laurell Hamilton about 7 books in, some of you have stronger stomachs than I do. Any way, I'm looking forward to some kick-ass urban fantasy.

I just picked one of the Dresden books up at my library, white knight I think it was called, and I really enjoyed it. It was a nice easy, quick read that was just fun to read. Should be getting the first two books from science fiction book club soon.
Besides, I love the idea of magic and monsters in the modern world.

White Knight would be the newest, it was a highly enjoyable read.

Dresden is totally that, and most people abandoned LKH after any of the drek that followed OBSIDIAN BUTTERFLY (by which i mean Obsidian Butterfly was the last good book in the series, after which it eroded into a mess of thinly veined author self-insertion erotica slash externalizing her divorce and subsequent orgies in a bad way).

I suspect the two sfbc editions are the collected ones that include like three books each, so you're in for some fun. I think there are a couple more between the sfbc collected ed's and WN you may want to track down once you're good and hooked.

@Vaiski: heh, i've actually got SMALL FAVORS and LAST ARGUEMENT on the same amazon.ca order.
- Abyss, fan.

Godammit, you can get the book in Iraq now before the UK?!? what's the world coming too....
Anyway my copy arrived today, along with Last Arguement of Kings, which is a pretty damned good delivery!
Anyway being a lazy bum (ie student) with excessively long holidays has it's good points meaning that i have been able to while the day away reading these two excellent books, and I have to say they're both good.
Lots of cool moments in this one, the shit really does hit the fan, every time I think Butcher can't escalate it any more he ups things a notch. We get appearances from most of the core characters we all love (not much Marcone unfortunately), and some very cool moments all round, not quite up to the pinnacle of dead beat (what CAN beat a giant undead dinosaur being ridden by a wizard and a polka player really?) but still very enjoyable, typical dresden matched against some serious powerhouses. Oh and the billy goats gruff... genius, just wait til you meet big brother...
Oh and abyss, if it's been posted to you your screwed

It's already started.
First amazon posted that it's being prepared for shipping. No "There has been a problem processing your order. We will email you an update as soon as we have a new delivery date"

Assuming you meant to write TV series, then yes, they did, and yes, it was. Really, really bad. Like, i want those hours of my life back you worthless tvcrap spouting gits bad. I think there is some discussion further up the thread.
- Abyss, did, however, like the hockey stick.

Would it spoil my eventual reading of the series if I watched the TV-series? I have a site I can stream it from when I get time.

go ahead, they butcher (ha ha) it so bad that you wont even come close to spoiling the books...
Hokey stick good... doom box, good bianca bad...
and honestly not all the episodes were terrible, the best ones were mediocre...they tried to go beyond their budget with CGI and the special affects looked early 90's terrible

If by spoil you mean spoilers then nope, it won't have any effect on your reading.
It will, however, take away time you could have spent reading the books.
At best astoundingly mediocre (maybe two eps). At worse, predictable poorly acted amatuer junk with plotholes you could pilot a dragon thru.
- Abyss, ...hey, i know, let's have Harry try to save a damsel in distress IN EVERY *%$#ING! EPISODE!!!!!

Ahh, the plot thickens - amazon.ca now lists this as 'out of stock'.
Of course, since it's sitting in my friendly neighborhood Chapters, if they don't 'in to stock' pdq, they lose the sale.
- Abyss, strikes down with GREAT fury upon those who delay his gratification...

I was surprised myself at how fast it showed up...I preordered it a while back...just to make sure I didn’t get hit with the "out of stock" B.S (snickers at abyss)
But if the pages are messed up like they were in my before they are hanged book I am going to burn down Amazon.com...and probably most of the internet with it...
