Ha! Anyone see the Packers/Seahawks game? Complete beatdown. To be fair, Seattle never played their #1 QB or their two best O linemen. But still, I think the score was 48-13 or something.

As you say ..... enjoy it while you can it's pre-season and not the nightmare you know is coming Sept 9th.

So I had to choose my fantasy keepers from last year, and in my league you can chose one player rated in the top 100, and one out of the top 100. Somehow my keepers are Larry Johnson and J.P. Losman. And I'm the 5th pick in our 12 team league, meaning by the time I get to pick the best player left on the board (remember the top 12 are gone) will probably be someone totally suspect like McNabb or Thomas Jones.
Sigh. The worst is that I need to find a keeper for 2008.

I don't think a nightmare is coming. Will it be great? No. But, I think they'll be a better team than last year, who went 8-8.

One guy who would love a final hurrah in the NFL is Mike Vick. Having finally copped a plea to the dog fighting charges against him I can't see the Falcons welcoming him back when he finally finishes jail time (12-18mths est) and an NFL ban likely of at least 1 year. The NFL ban would probably be enforced after he served jail time so the Falcons will have moved on at the QB position long before Vick returned.
On the plus side some prison governor will have a team to be feared.

If Goodell doesn't hand down a lifetime ban, some NFL team is going to take a flier on Vick. He's too talented and he'll be 28. Jamal Lewis did fall way off after his stint in jail - likely nutritionally and conditioning related issues - but Vick doesn't normally hit the weights that hard and he puts butts in the seats.
I could see Miami or Minnesota taking that flier. I think Goodell puts a ban on him that operates concurrently with the jail time.

I'm just amazed at how quickly people have forgotten how the Falcons were talking early in the pre-season. I remember various analysts discussing whether the Falcons would get rid of Vick long before the dog-fightin stuff, and that was purely in football terms.
I think if your franchise is serious about actually winning, then i don't see why you would go with Vick? He's an immense athletic talent with very questionable game management skills and accuracy issues. Never going to win you a superbowl.
Sad as it may seem though, I think you could be right and some idiots will take the plunge when he's out.
One suggestion that I've heard, from Emmet Smith I think, is that if he does ever return, it won't be as a quarterback. but as a runner of some kind.

Vick is not a good fit with Petrino's college offense, but professional football is all about using what you do have - especially that first two years, before the roster turnover is completed.
If the dog-fighting stuff never happened, I couldn't imagine Vick being traded for anything less than a superstar and a number 3 pick or a number 1 in a loaded draft and a mid-level star. Vick may actually be among the top 20 athletes in the world in any sport or pursuit and even though that hasn't translated fully into success in the NFL, he's a precious and rare commodity.

vicks current contract is cost prohibitive for most trades i would think.. after he get suspended by the nfl the falcons can cut him(or suspend him without pay) without a cap hit though

Mike Vick apologized Monday for " using bad judgment and making bad decisions " ..... NO he wasn't talking about some of the lousy interceptions he has thrown during his career, but rather asking our forgiveness following his guilty plea to federal dog fighting charges. I have been a harsh critic of Mr Vick since this news broke, but I hope if nothing else he gets his chance to eventually make things right.

I'm not sure that's a very good start. If I heard correctly, he pled guilty to financing the dogs and occasionally participating in killing the ones that didn't measure up, but not to betting on the dog fights. Yeah sure.

If he admits to the gambling side of things his career is over with a likely lifetime NFL Ban, this way he may play again in a couple of years time if someone will take a chance on him.
