they lost their first round pick(if they make the playoffs). they have 2 other first round picks already(that will most likely be better picks). i think they'll be fine. it was a slap on the wrist and im disappointed in gooddell with what hes been doing in penalties this year. a suspension was definately warranted

I don't think THIS incident really affects their legacy. As I have heard pointed out, in each of their Superbowl wins, their performance dropped off in the second half, which is hardly a case for them learning their opponents calls and using them in the second half.

Like so many other teams in professional sports, they were pushing the envelope in terms of the rules and their interpretation. Every team tries to steal the others signals, it's just baffling that they were so obvious about it when a former colleague is coaching the other team. For an organisation that has been run so well, that was an amazingly dumb thing to do.

I don't think this will affect their season at all. A fine and the loss of draft picks are more of an inconvenience. My own belief is that Goodell should have forfeited the result. If the league thinks they cheated to gain an advantage in THAT game, then they should lose THAT result.

Anyway, the worst accusation I've heard against the Patriots is that in an AFC championship game a few years ago, they managed to jam the radio frequencies of the Jaguars (I think?) so they couldn't easily communicate between the sideline and the booth upstairs. Now THAT's cheating (but never proven I might add).

I'm just glad they sorted this out and we can get on with enjoying a season for the right reasons.

First things first ..... great to see signs of improvement in condition of Bills TE Kevin Everett. Lets hope he can use the determination he showed to make it as an NFL player to battle back to health ..... it won't be easy but I know he can do it.

Pats cheat scandal ~ Firstly stealing calls did not win the Pats Championships. The players go out on the field and execute the plays and that can be hard to do even if you know the exact play called.

That said though I think the NFL has the punishment wrong ..... they have not been tough enough.

Here is what I would have done differently ~

If Pats make playoffs they lose 1st & 3rd round picks next year & 2nd next year after.
If Pats miss playoffs they lose 2nd & 3rd round picks next year & 1st rounder the year after.
Ban Belichick for 6 games with no access to the team for that complete period.
And lastly and the most humiliating confiscate all of Belichicks hoodies and make him wear a suit ala Mike Nolan for the rest of the year !

It is sort of difficult for me to weigh in on this as a pats fan...

But am I the only one that thought the taping of the signs was for later use? ie Not for in game adjustments? When I first heard about this I sort of brushed it off as 'one of a thousand things' going on in the NFL that the average fan really just doesn't see. Then the snowball keeps rolling and I started hearing about second half adjustments etc. and I realized I must not have understood it.

And then after the ruling was made by Goodell, Bill's statement seemed to indicate more towards what I originally had assumed, that the filming was more for research and preparation purposes as opposed to immediate in game advantage. I mean either way it appears a rule was broken, and the pats have to deal with the consequences, but I don't think it was as nefarious a situation as the last two days have made it out to be. (ESPN's Jim Rome is a fucking douche bag by the way. I hope he drowns in a vat of Barghast shit)

I remember that jaguar's incident too, but by this point it is all just rumor and a build up of lore. If i recall, Jack mentioned that his headset was having trouble and he wanted the NFL to investigate. I never heard anything after that, except for the televised inspection of Jack's headset which never found any sort of problem.

I think the NFC is wide open this year but you would have to say at the moment that the AFC has the much stronger teams. The AFC playoffs will be brutal.

What's funny is that the Packers should win next week vs the vikings. If so, they will be 4-0, needing only 4 or 5 more wins in 12 games to make it to the playoffs in the NFC. (If last year was any indication.)
