So huge. Its funny how small is malaz Island compared to.. well everything else, and everything started from there, amazing no?
I have stolen princesses from sleeping barrow kings
I have burned the town of Trebon
I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life
I was expelled from the University at a younger age most people are allowed in
I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during the day
I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make minstrels cry
You may have heard of me....

SE has said that the placing and shapes are roughly correct, but some of the islands should be bigger and different things are missing.

Also imagine how small Britain is compared to how much land was once under the empires control :D

My Guess about Drift Avalii is it is a mechanism like moons spawn but created by someone else, I havnt thaught too much where it came from originally except from before or during the first empire.

Presumaby it's a KCCM or KCNR structure like the Sky Keeps, I don't think it's a coincidence that we have flying mountains and floating mountains.

I'm posting this here because it's related to maps.
Anyone out there with a decent scanner that can help me out on something for the wiki please?
If so please pm me :D

and just a point on the World Map.. Shal Morzinn is shown as part of the same continent as 7 cities. Is it confirmed that it's definately part of the land-mass and not an island?

The Bonehunters seems to confirm it pretty thoroughly. It is said to be south-west of Nemil and south of Perish, both of whom avoid it. The Morzinni (?) surgeon that Paran meets says that the empire could have conquered 'this entire continent, including Seven Cities, if they wished', implying there is a strong connection.

I suppose it could be an island, but it is nowhere really hinted that it is.

Maybe Icarium had a hand in making it? Just a crazy theory, seeing as he's the Maker of Mechanisms and all that....

Just realised I'd better get ready for the new info (if any) revealed in Reaper's Gale. My guess is that the east coast of Lether is going to get more detailed.

Also perhaps the Mods could move this map along with the crazsy theory, Draconean family tree, etc. to the RG forum.

There is a full map of the Lether continent in RG. I haven't flipped through the rest of the book yet to see if we get any other blow-ups or view of cities. I suppose I'll do that tonight.

Any hints as to the continent's specific position in relation to the rest of the world?

As well, any chance you could scan and post it? I wouldn't imagine that would be anything even approaching a spoiler, and even if it was, it'd be one that people appreciate.

Actually, it's not the entire continent - just the mid portions that contain the Lether Empire - it extends to the north and southeast beyond what is shown. I haven't read it yet, so I don't know if there are hints in the book that help with its location. I don't know about scanning - someone around here might be able to pull some strings and get the actual image. Otherwise, I could look into getting a copy to Werthead for inclusion in his map, but then he'll get a copy soon enough.

Yeah, I need it scanned or the original image if at all possible. To photocopy the map in the book would require flattening those pages out or detaching them from the book, which I wouldn't like to do. Will try to get around this however.

Oh, I put this in another topic, but I'll repeat it here.

Lether's implied at being placed pretty much directly east of Jacuruku, so it should be slightly further south.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.

Putting a new thread up in the RG forum with the new map on there. The info from the new map in the book means radically expanding the size of Lether so the continent is now due east of Jacuruku (although the empire itself is somewhat north-east). I need to do a big rethink based on SE's comments a year ago though and I need to actually read RG itself to see what other info can be gleaned from it. I know there's the Cabil Archipelago near Perish, so I added that.

one of the things i like best about Erikson's world building is that he didnt just reproduce a slightly altered version of Europe and Asia :) . On another note though in Midnight Tides theres tundra near the Tiste Edur homeland, but on the map it seems to be almost on the Equator? Why is that(im guessing some kind of Jaghut influence here)
