a really tough question to choose a single favourite...
quick ben... because of the cool exchange with shadowthrone where he learns who quick ben is/was... leaves you wanting to know more about quick.

#1: Kruppe. He's a real cherub.
#2: Hairlock. I believe a famous english professor once said that the best kind of story antagonist is a living wooden puppet that can tap into chaos and vanish, only to reappear and destroy things.
#3: Surly.
Spoiler: She's better than Kalam.
As well, there's definatly going to be a moment later in the series where she pulls something amazing and drops everyone's jaw. She's the best assasain-mage.

All the assasins in book one were the reason I got hooked in the first place but...
overall Rake for his oh so cool enter the dragon entrace from the sky. In my mind I was thinking:
"ooh big hardcore assasin with BIG sword, poor Quick Ben..."
then:
"Hang on big sword...run Quick! RUN!!!"
BTW anyone felt sorry for the demon that had to fight Rake? I almost cried for the poor guy. Almost...

Kellanved/Ammanas/Shadowthrone.
the pub landlord who became a mage. the mage who forged an Empire. the Emperor who commanded the T'lan Imass, who subjugated two continents, who ascended to become a somewhat unhinged giggler.
I wish he was in it more.

I think that if ne1s read NoK then they will find it hard to countenece kellenved owning a tavern. any description we get seems to suggest a somewhat frail old man

In Gardens of the Moon, my favorite characters are Kruppe, Quick Ben & Kalam, Sorry & Crokus, and also Paran. Every scene that the comical Kruppe in, is well worth reading again & again. Erikson marvelously displays just one aspect of his genius with his creation and use of Kruppe. The other characters are really cool too, but there is just something about Kruppe I really really enjoy.

I think in all these pages I am about to give only the third vote for Hairlock, then I'll follow that, in order of preference, with Kruppe, Tool, Toc and Quick Ben.
