At any rate, Mappo travelled with him for a long time, and I think the NO always kill the prior companion, probably not just to remove him from Icarium's side but also to remove him as a power in this world. Icarium's companions always live longer, thanks to the NO...much, much longer. Perhaps this is also tied to the power of time.

Actually I think it more likely that Icariums companions have died during skirmishes with Iccys enemies/victims, say a stray arrow, a lucky divers or more tragically - by the hand of a Icarium himself.

When Iccy goes mental he kills everything living, he even likes to destroy inanimate objects. I don't think Mappo would be spared if Iccy was in lifestealer mode.

I agree. Iccy gets a new companion almost every time he goes into full rage. Sometimes, even, the killing of his companion is what causes the rage, right? Like at that city?

I think people are getting confused with readings of the fatid and characters that hold positions within certain houses.
It seems clear to me that characters can act as a certain house member for a small amount of time without having to hold that position in the house. A clear example for that would be Kalam becoming assasin of high house shadow when he goes to murder Lasseen, and also herald of high house death, when he delivers the book to Sha'ik, starting the holy war.
I think people are looking way too much into the readings when they only show that someone is acting in a position for a limited amount of time.

I liked someones earlier theory about otataral being like a "coagulant" to heal wounds within the warrens, morn is a portal to the chaos warren is it not? And i believe there's evidence to suggest that chaos was around before the elder gods so k'rul has nothing to do with that particular warren.

I can't really support anything i write right now with quotes because i don't have the books on me at this moment but things made perfect sense to me.

I believe that ST wanted Kalam in the Deadhouse; he arrived exactly when he wanted to. The only thing he didn't plan on was Kalam stumbling due to the fact that a wall had been taken down. Otherwise, I think it's pretty clear he planned out the night. Cotillion was in position to aid Quick Ben, so he could not come to Kalam's aid, and again, it's clear that High House Shado got what it wanted.

This discussion on the collection of aspects is fascinating. What, I wonder, is Mappo aspected to?

Dunno about Mappo being aspected...he was an agent of the NO so his persistent lifespan would have been their doing, not any innate time aspect. But as I said, dunno...

What interests me is that Shadow planned the entire evening. Apsalar delivered Kalam's otataral knife to ST as if it was her mission... so she was supposed to get it somehow. How? And did they just count on him being incapacitated long enough for ST to get him, unconscious, into the Azath? It seems linked to Fiddlers game of the Deck... Apsalar/Shadow must have read Kalam's demise.

I haven't read all the threads so please forgive me if these are recycled. Otherwise, can anyone explain Shadow's precision on that night.

I don't know if this theory was mentioned back in the MoI threads.. but something has been bugging me about Burn and her sleep.

Remember the Mhybe? I forget who asked: "Why does she sleep?"
The answer was "She sleeps so that she can dream."

Could the same be true for Burn?

We saw just how pivotal the events in the Mhybe's dreams were.

Kruppe's dreams also seem to have a power, and his dreams seem to intersect with the waking world in some strange ways.

Could it be that Burn doesn't sleep because it somehow insulates her from the CG's powers, but because her dreams somehow form the basis of a realm in which the CG is kept, or something like that?

Isn't it Murillio in MoI who rants something like 'How many sleeping old women dreaming up worlds are there!?!' ? :D

I figured Burn slept because the pain of the CG being bound to her was too much, but your theory is just was good as we have to work with.

Mine is pretty out there. Mine is all based on a feeling I had when reading MOI. Anomander Rake was very curious about Quick Ben. He is now one of the few people outside of the Bridgeburners who knows about his soul aquiring ways. I have a feeling that he will at some point die but want QB to take his soul. He believes in fighting the good fight after all and does so even though his people have had no cause up to this point to keep going.

Crazy theory but it fits the thread.

I remember Oponn wanting to kill a soldier in Malaz City for stealing their power. My hunch tells me that the soldier is Fiddler, and that somehow he is Luck-aspected, which kind of makes sense since he's able to lay a field with the Deck like he did. Plus it was mentioned that Corabb was favoured by Oponn in some way, and it doesn't seem like a coincidence that he and Fiddler became chummy after crawling around under Y'Ghatan.

I know baudin was a Talon and I am sure his father was also I rember reading, Where does it say that he is working with hood and the knight HH hood? I must have missed that even after reading the books three times already. yes I am a slow reader and i think alot gets past me. But I have to say I really love these books they helped keep me sane the two years I spent in Iraq.

Baudin is the Knight of Death. Look at the glossaries of any book after MoI.

He wasn't associated with Hood until he died though.

Well, if he killed the second, then he becomes the new second.

His knowledge about the Seguleh and the history of Darujhistan made me think that he was one of the Seguleh, not one who just happened to stumble into their society by killing the second.
By the way you'd have to be one heck of a fighter to become or kill the second (which is the same, obviously). So if he came from outside of the Seguleh society, he would have to be a famous warrior.

When I read it I thought that Baudin was the guy serving Hood who had the Seguleh second mask. The people who see him wouldn't know Baudin so the description wouldn't matter, but Baudin is the Knight of Death. Where did I miss the info that it's a separate person?

Well, Baudin appeared in MoI as the Knight of Death, and although it wasn't spelled out in the text it was crystal clear from his dialogue and description that it was he. And later glossaries (HoC onwards) state that he is now the Knight.

So I think we're on safe ground when we say the Soldier of Death is a different person.

Baudin's role as Knight is revealed by Cotillion in HoC, when he tells the story to Cutter, before sending him off to guard Felisin Younger (don't have the page reference, but it's towards the end, lol)
The Seguleh Second (or whomever's carrying his mask around) is named the soldier of HHD by Heboric in TBH...
