Happy birthday, SM! Keep destroying the British Government from within!
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

Ta very much. I think I can leave destroying the British Government from within to Dave and Nick now; they seem to be doing a good enough job of that at the moment. Better than I ever could.

If an opinion contrary to your own makes you angry, that is a sign that you are subconsciously aware of having no good reason for thinking as you do. If some one maintains that two and two are five, or that Iceland is on the equator, you feel pity rather than anger, unless you know so little of arithmetic or geography that his opinion shakes your own contrary conviction. … So whenever you find yourself getting angry about a difference of opinion, be on your guard; you will probably find, on examination, that your belief is going beyond what the evidence warrants. Happy belated B-Day SM!

Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

I've been out of the country over the weekend, so sorry to all of you that I haven't responded sooner. Thank you all very much for the birthday wishes. You've made an old man very happy... Nurse? Is it time for my bedbath yet?

Thanks for the birthday wishes, y'all. It was decent despite my laptop hard drive refusing to spin anymore - meaning the total loss of the last two months of work (didn't back it up recently enough).
Pumpkin pie helps make everything better.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

Hopefully, Stonewielder will lessen the hate coming from the Fowl to a point where Dag can enjoy her birthday too. Have fun, y'all.
