Currently reading Death of an Ancient King by Laurent Gaude, shaping up quite well, he's won some awards for this novel in France so thought Id give it a go.

The book has an Arabian feel to it so if your into that sort of novel give it a go, I'll give you a full update when Ive finished it.

Fool - indeed, Banks is a brilliant sci-fi author. Try to read them in order, as they reflect the technological advancement in his universe (well, except against a dark background). "Player of Games" and "Use of Weapons" are two of the best books I have ever read. The others aint close behind neitherPosted Image

I'm just about finished reading A Good Walk Spoiled by John Feinstein.

It's a good look inside the PGA tour and a few of it's players' struggles. It also gives the reader some insight into the game and the way it can take hold of people. BTW> the title is based on a famous quote by Mark Twain.

@Pale -
I wouldn't go so far as to call Broken Angles drivel... sure it aint no Altered Carbon but neither was it Terry Goodkind...
Yeah, I read the first 50-odd pages of MF without coming up for air then I started to find it a little heavyhanded (hence the comment to Loose). It is almost a Clockwoork Orange meets Car Wars scenario....
Maybe just the feeling that it has been done before; but haing said that I enjoy his writng and the fact that the violence has a veracity.

So you enjoyed Making History. As I said, I read a while back; actually have Tennis Balls of the Gods (Fry as well) sitting by my bed at the moment. Making History was, civilised humour, I think is the best description. Very mannered...

I'm reading Incubus Dreams by Laurel K Hamilton. Lots of sex so far and not much else.

And I've been to San Francisco (5 years ago though).

Still reading "Da Vinci Code"...picking up. But the prose is truly turgid.

Also ,reading a few classic coms' Milligans "Shade The Changing Man" and Delano era "Hellblazer : Constantine ". I hear that a film has been made of Constantine starring Canoe "I am the one ..dude" Reeves. Words fail me...anyone seen this piece of garbage yet ? I'm presuming it will be garbage!

I do understand that. Be nice if they gave it to me, though.

I mean that they wont believe a comp sci student that a book about medieval war is important to have in their library.

I said that some academics argue that the use of bows was more to break up formations than to actually kill people, because they really werent all that good at that.

Re-reading "The Fifth Elephant by Pratchett", waiting for "Who Wrote The Bible" by Friedman to arrive from Amazon, and then plan to go through the Malazan books again... just finding it hard to find anything new that's worth the effort (started "A Shadow On The Glass" by Irvine recently, and man did it suck ass).

PS - this is my first post - great forums guys, glad to be here Posted Image
