Just finished A Fortress of Grey Ice, as well as The Healthy Dead, both of which were very enjoyable and well written. I'm also going along in 'The cave of Nine Banestones', by Eric Van Lustbader, which is the third book in the series. Very good. A kind of a fantasy/SF mix, with two societies, one relying on advanced technology, the others of ancient magic. Planning on rereading either Dune of the Black Jewel trilogy after that, although by the time I finish my current read, these plans may have changed again.

Now reading Liz Williams' "The Poison Master" The review compared her to Mieville. What a load of bollocks. No where near as good, I'm really dissapointed now

oh, absolutely, I know first books are often nowhere near the quality of later ones
and there were some promising bits...
read "Lyra's Oxford" in about half an hour the other night...severly dissapointed.
Chasm City gets better and better though

Finished the beast that is "QuickSilver".
Hopefully will receive "The Confusion" for my birthday.
I just started reading The Broken Crown by Michelle West. I had never heard of her before, but she has a ten book series (I think it's ten), and a duology preceding that.

Just finished the Farseer trilogy. What a crap ending. A long, long, long, long build up to have everything resolved in a few pages. Seems to me she ran out of steam (either that or the editor was on her case).
In general, decent books with some excellent characterisation.
However, the overall story was dumb and the world building quite shallow. Nowhere near the top in the fantasy world as a series. I'll stick to Erikson, Bakkar and Martin, thanks.

Anyway,gave up on Gene Wolfe's "The Books of the New Sun"..*gasps from the fantasy lit-wank crowd* of which I'm a founder member. Just too slow and dull,I'm afraid.
Reading a few stories from GRRMs "Rretrospective" Then starting dad-friendly-thriller-lit (TM PALE) "Da Vinci Code".Why ? Because the rest of the world can't be wrong .Can it ? No spoilers.
Cloud Atlas review+ others, by Jeff Vandermeer over at Locus.

Still reading It by Stephen King, tis a massive book. Still should finish today or tomorrow. Hope it ends better than hte film (I've heard it does). Even if it doesn't though, it's still been a great book.

Well, finished Market Forces... for more see Morgan thread in the Book Forum... in brief I liked but it felt a little too much of an amalgamation of other works rather than a true creation...

yeah ? The one we are strongly recommended is the oxfords version, not illustratet unfortunately. I do however have a childrens type verison of the oddysey, some of the pictures of the nymphs are quite interesting
