Problem is black library controls the pricing and sale, chances of them being I a humble bundle or a the like is slim.

You might have a shot on Amazon used

I may be misremembering but pretty sure there have been a few Black Library Bundles. I got the earbook one last year.

I do know a lot of the WH40K omnibuses (Gaunt's, Ciaphas, etc.) were on sale in ebook form at Amazon UK earlier this year for like £2 a pop. And yes, there have been I think 2-3 Black Library Humble Bundles the past couple of years; most of it was Horus Heresy stuff.

...aaaaaand a new one was announced today.

That`s A LOT of books.

How many of them are any good? I'm tempted

The top tier is the only one with any books I've read in it...and they are fine...the conspicuous absence of Gaunt books should tell you that BL didn't want to drop their gold titles in a humble bundle...

That said, that Ravenor omnibus by Abnett is probably worth the top tier price any itself...so, YMMV.

Fuck it I dropped them £15 and took the lot.

Can't see me getting time any time soon to read any, but given how pricey a lot of BL stuff is if even 3 are decent it's a win

I need to petition the scholars of the empire:

It’s bugging me but I cant remember the name of a certain book. If I recall I didn’t particularly like the book. However it was a fantasy series and the only two things I can seemingly remember is there was a war and the elite organization of the enemy country was called the black road, nothing to do with their name but the members of the black road were elite agents/soldiers/inquisitors or something like that and could basically run all day every day in pursuit of their enemies. The book must have been somewhat contemperous with wheel of time because I remember thinking they sound like aiel

There was also a fortress in the book called high end I think it was.

Okay, I totally see why Wert would recommend "The Ember Blade" now. It's a slow-starter, but it goes places. When is book 2 coming out?

I mean, some of the plot points were fairly predictable, and the ending is cheesy, but it's the good, fist-pump, "fuck, yeah!" epic-kind of cheesy.

And there's hints of pretty momentous stuff to come, if Wooding can avoid losing the plot.

I am genuinely impressed.

Gonna try "The Forgetting Moon" next, since I seem to be in a book-devouring mood again now that I'm locked up and can only bear to look at a computer screen for so long.

Finished Michael J. Sullivan's AGE OF EMPYRE, and it was wonderful! Lots of emotion and epic sequences. Still some unwrapped stuff that will apparently happen in the interim trilogy coming out next that bridges the First Empire books with Ryria Chronicles, so that's something to look forward to!

One or two nods at Ryria are nicely embedded.

Spoiler

I read the first book years ago and thought it was just OK. My library has a bunch of the audiobooks, so I'm going to give it another try.

The first book is pretty "rote" classic fantasy....but it gets much better as it goes along and much more in depth. It's especially rewarding if you've read Riryia already too.

Yeah, I meant I read the very first book. IIRC, the publisher gave away the first ebook. I am going to read it in publication order, I'm almost done with my latest read and up next is either this or The Shadow of What Was Lost.

Oohhhhh! Yes then, Riryia especially gets better as it goes along. You should very much enjoy it. Read Riryia first and then the First empire series that I'm talking about.

Finished The First Man in Rome which was excellent, will continue on to The Grass Crown.

A very nice mix of history and the minor personal stories of side characters are very engaging and paint such vivid picture of ancient life. Most fantasy doesn't have the strangeness of roman life and I guess that some of the details would have seemed too bizarre for most fantasy but works because yepp they really did that stuff that today sound like insanity.

hard agree with BK here, Masters of Rome is a superb series read straight through. Given the names, especially the way family names are handed on, and the politics I would imagine a large game between books would be an irritant

Finished A Little Hatred, if you like Abercrombie pick it up, if you don't steer clear, its Abercrombie leaning hard into Abercrombie on the dialogue and action.

going to start Touch by Claire North at some stage this weekend

In the respect how much of how much I enjoyed her Rome series I still feel massively let down by Song of Troy by McCullough

I mean she doesn't really lean into the mythology of it, its just, I dunno really flat and, given my love of the mythos it was just disappointing after Rome
