Currently hooked on Scandinavian detective series: Harry Hole, Joona Lina, etc. Also the inspiration for Harry Hole, Harry Bosch.

Finished Calgary fury there.
As expected, solid Space Marine fare, Kearney does do battle scenes well.
The over arcing story was alright, but a solid supporting cast and an already established Calgar carry the book in the lulls between shooty smashy space marine time.
Popcorn fun, no real sense of loss at the deaths, but that's not really the aim of the two books so far, I'd say Siege was the same, these aren't Ghosts books, and aren't trying to be. This is more a showcase of the raw power of the Marines, and their implacable will

As PRIORY OF THE ORANGE TREE continues to win and lose me, took a break for
NEVER DIE, described as a fantasy lit love letter to Wuxia films. Kid cuts a deal with a demon, must recruit dead heroes to help him kill a guy.
...enjoying it so far. Really does read like a classic Asian swordfeste with fantasy elements.

Okay, 350 pages in, things pick up significantly after the prison break.
Still not sure where we're going with this, and how things are gonna work out; there are still serious elements of an "idiot plot" happening here, but I'm intrigued. And we got good supporting characters in Grub and Vika now, so the book's starting to flow.

Problem is black library controls the pricing and sale, chances of them being I a humble bundle or a the like is slim.

The problem arises with Black Library because they shift their covers and releases so often that older Omnibus copies of say Gaunt's Ghosts which you SHOULD technically in a normal world be able to get at a discount...they go very specifically "out of print" in the interim before the next version comes out...so it becomes really expensive in the wild. They do this purposely because they'd rather you buckle and buy the new version than an older used version on the cheap. When I was looking to get the 3rd Gaunt omnibus way back when, it had JUST gone out of print and every copy on amazon was prohibitively expensive (like over $100)...and I only nabbed one because a SFF bookstore in my city had an old copy they weren't gouging with.
But yeah, anyone wanting the omnibuses will probably have to pay full price unless they are lucky.
That said, THE FOUNDING (Gaunt omnibus #1) is currently only about $25 new...three books for a hardcover price ain't too bad.

And WELL worth it.

Picked up A Little Hatred by Abercrombie, I've had it here for a while, and I'm trying to actively diminish my TRP, rather than constantly buying more and more books.

I do know a lot of the WH40K omnibuses (Gaunt's, Ciaphas, etc.) were on sale in ebook form at Amazon UK earlier this year for like £2 a pop. And yes, there have been I think 2-3 Black Library Humble Bundles the past couple of years; most of it was Horus Heresy stuff.
"Here is light. You will say that it is not a living entity, but you miss the point that it is more, not less. Without occupying space, it fills the universe. It nourishes everything, yet itself feeds upon destruction. We claim to control it, but does it not perhaps cultivate us as a source of food? May it not be that all wood grows so that it can be set ablaze, and that men and women are born to kindle fires?"

Got my hands on AGE OF EMPYRE (Book 6; finale to the series) by Michael J. Sullivan (Kickstarter Gamma ebook), so I'm already about 20% into that and it's excellent.
And with the buzz about the marketing for Villeneueve's DUNE remake, I'm going to re-read that next.

Huh. Things sure escalated quickly.
Now we're into "freedom fighters/terrorists vs an occupying police state" territory, with heavy hints of genocide.
That's certainly a... different turn for what started out as fairly standard fantasy fare.

Finished Lovecraft Country which was very enjoyable. Worth a look by any lovecraft fan. A Jim Crow view on some of what Lovecraft writes through a series of interconnected stories. Only one of them was a bit turgid but it picked up at the end to make it worth it. Writing and pacing both good and the character development and growth is well pitched.
Enjoying Gideon the Ninth. Lots of little hints throughout that I'm not yet able to pull into the bigger picture.
I might start Gaunts Ghosts after the chat in here to see what I make of it.

Finished Bright Steel by Miles Cameron, and it was excellent. It mentions something at the end about there being more to the series, but Amazon has it as book 3 of 3. I really hope there's more. I already want to reread the series.

Finished Michael J. Sullivan's AGE OF EMPYRE, and it was wonderful! Lots of emotion and epic sequences. Still some unwrapped stuff that will apparently happen in the interim trilogy coming out next that bridges the First Empire books with Ryria Chronicles, so that's something to look forward to!
One or two nods at Ryria are nicely embedded.
