Hey guys, I have been off for a while
Currently mainly reading history - Just finished a book called Command and Control about the US nuclear weapons program and that was terrifying.
Currently going to pick up Shattered Sword on the battle of Midway

I might read Gideon at some point but I am intensely mindful that the last two megahyped books (Way of Being Bad, and Kings of the Every Fucking Tired D&D Trope Ever) I read went to very high positions on my shitlist, so I am wary.
Gonna go ahead and tell you not to bother, I'm fairly sure you'll add it to your shit list

Having finished the MoI reread I'm picking up the final book in the Bel Dame Apochrya trilogy by Kameron Hurley, Rapture. It's a ace trilogy but pretty grim and therefore hard going so whether I'll hold to that given the world and we're on day 11 of bubba Cyphon so something easier might be a better shout... I would like to properly finish it though while reading the last book is fresh though.

Oh man if that happens every time someone mentions it he'll show up and tell us he's special because he didn't like it... And I don't want that for Gideon!

Mostly what makes me incessantly cross about Rush to Ascendancy is what a wasted opportunity it was. There was so much scope for rich backstory and instead we got Jeremy Clarkson in a Bugatti Veyron gunning for maximum speed whilst loudly shouting.

Trying to make my way through the last Eternal Champion book "Count Brass", and my, Hawkmoon is still a bore. The worst protag Moorcock ever came up with.
Such a bummer that this is considered to be the sequence endpoint.

Ok, because my wrists needed a break from Ori, finished "Count Brass". Part 2 doesn't feature much Hawkmoon, and part 3 does, buuut it's a major crossover- and one - think I've already read from a different PoV before. The ending's still all kinds of sappy, but Hawkmoon's crappiness doesn't weigh the book down as much. 3.5/5
I need to put the last 2 reviews in the review forum in the Moorcock thread.
Since I'm working from home for the foreseeable future, commute read will become home read. Time to get back to "Red Tide"

What's the reason you think I'd not like it? I suppose if it's poorly written, slapdash or overly reliant on every D&D trope imaginable I wouldn't, but my reasons for being leery of it are purely because of hype. I have learned to mistrust that word over the last few years.
Or, rather, sell the concept of this book to me.

I was massively underwhelmed after the hype, so I'm the wrong person to sell it.
Apt didn't like it, so by forum logic it must be good? Best sell I can make

I don't pay attention to what Apt does or doesn't like though, so no sale for you my sir.
It will probably be cheap enough on Abe once my TRP is down a little but I still have like 15+ books to work on for now.
As an aside I am starting to feel like Kruppe is half based on Donaldson's writing style. Words everywhere.

Stay away from Mordant's Need then. Two thick books padding the hell out of a decent novella.
"Fortune favors the bold, though statistics favor the cautious." - Indomitable Courteous (Icy) Fist, The Palace Job - Patrick Weekes
"Well well well ... if it ain't The Invisible C**t." - Billy Butcher, The Boys
"I have strong views about not tempting providence and, as a wise man once said, the difference between luck and a wheelbarrow is, luck doesnt work if you push it." - Colonel Orhan, Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City - KJ Parker

Read the synopsis. Go look at the state of Japanese light novels and anime, this man apparently has a lot to answer for.
Hell, did he even set the OG example of Truck-kun at the start of Lord Foul!? Yeesh.
For all that, I am rather liking his writing style. It's wordy and girthy, but much as with Kruppe, I like it.

Covenant still hasn't said 'wort wort wort'. Should I be expecting him to do so?
That aside stuff darkened in tone notably now and I am expecting it probably won't let up.

I think you'll enjoy the entire series. Just be prepared for a different, yet consequent track in the second series.
