Love the way Jay's den is branching out too with Finch and Teller starting work and how they are all developing. The way Michelle West builds her characters is awesome, they all feel real, especially now you start to read from others perspectives giving their opinion on the members of the den.

I finished The Broken Crown yesterday. It's a solid 4* imo, with the flaws of the novel having been mentioned in depth several times already.

I'm staring in jealousy at Abyss and Tiste's threads for book 2 but I promised myself I'd finish Exodus the Long Sun and owe a friend The Mote in God's Eye since they started reading Shogun at my insistence. I'll be continuing as soon as I can after those two books though.

Been pimping the Sun Sword for a couple of months now, so I'd recommend starting with that one.

About 800 pages into The Sun Sword and it's great to see storylines that began in The Broken Crown come full circle.

Still somewhat of a slow burn, but yet oh so satisfying. Love the character growth of protagonists such as Diora and Valedan.

And finally, we get more Kiriel!

As he was walking up to Sor Na Shannen in the foyer I was shouting in my head, "Get back to the shadow!"

That entire section of the manse attack was epic beyond proportions! The Hunters Death, brutal!

And it just keeps going and going... fastforward that, to the entire council meeting section and then to Cordufar manse with two pissed off mages...

The Terafin / Jay / Torvan scene was awesome too...

Feels like Jay is being setup longterm to be the Terafin?! The House Spirit talking with her, Ellerson's comment about dreaming higher to rule a house, Finch/Teller learning the trade with the right-kin and the merchant authority... lots of hints coming thick and fast about their potential futures etc...

Loving it... This. Book. Is. Awesome.

Do you know if someone is editing the new books? In every acknowledgement section, she mentions how Sheila Gilbert was an important part of each novel. But now that she's self-publishing, did she hire another editor to go through the manuscripts?

950 into The Sun Sword and I've just read the chapter recounting the eve of the last battle. Like GRRM, I love how Michelle West allows us to see momentous events through the eyes/perspectives of various characters, great ans small. Though vast in scope in the greater scheme of things, you experience everything on a much smaller scale that makes the reader live these moments more vicariously.

I have a feeling that this rollercoaster is going down one final time and that the last 300 pages or so will be memorable. If West has proved one thing thus far, it's that she knows how to end a book with panache!
