I have a copy of fellowship around somewhere, so in for that. Beasts of China will depend on library availability.

So, STRANGE BEASTS OF CHINA by Yan Ge... last call for objections, alternatives, silenced darts to the vulnerable points at eye and ear....

I haven't heard any significant objections so I guess we're going with Strange Beasts and Fellowship.

Are we doing the same 3 month window as the last time? With two reading threads?

I can reuse the templates from last year and post new threads this evening, unless somebody else is already ready to do so?

I can't find my copy of Fellowship (may have loaned it out and not gotten it back) and the local library copy of Strange Beasts is still out and a month overdue, so I will be a bit late joining. Oddly the library also has six copies of The Two Towers and Return of the King, but one of Fellowship of the Ring which they have lost track of.

If you speak to a librarian they might be willing to make an inter library loan from a different city or municipality.

Tell them it's for a book club.

I checked the online catalogue today and there are four or five copies of fellowship due back at other branches this week. So hopefully I can pick one of those up. But, the libraries here did away with late fees during Covid and haven't reinstated them, so due dates aren't followed as much now.

I'm down to clown for The Two Towers as the classic, but am a desert of idea for new hip stuff to try.

This has been getting some positive hype, comparisons to Gemmel and Eames as a 'classic fantasy story'.

If it is similar to Gemmell sign me up!

Sounds decent...

Quote

The war is over, but something is rotten in the state of Eidyn.

With a ragged peace in place, demons burn farmlands, violent Reivers roam the wilds and plague has spread beyond the Black Meadows. The country is on its knees.

In a society that fears and shuns him, Aranok is the first magically-skilled draoidh to be named King’s Envoy.

Now, charged with restoring an exiled foreign queen to her throne, he leads a group of strangers across the ravaged country. But at every step, a new mystery complicates their mission.

As bodies drop around them, new threats emerge and lies are revealed, can Aranok bring his companions together and uncover the conspiracy that threatens the kingdom?

Strap in for this twisted fantasy road trip from award-winning author Justin Lee Anderson.

Might I offer up A HERO BORN by Jin Yong (Legend of the Condor Heroes Book 1) as the classic pick?

I say this as I'm reading it already and it's damned fantastic. Like reading a martial arts fantasy movie.

I'll second The Two Towers. It's feels wrong to just stop after Fellowship.

I may or may not jump in for the other selection. My trp is heavier than usual for the near future thanks to QT and Pat.

Same, I'll try and jump in soon. TRP is a little intimidating right now.

I still haven't finished Fellowship and what little free brain not mush time I have, I'll be spending on Legend of Zelda and Diablo 4 over the coming months.

But I'll happily make two new book club threads, if you settle on a second book besides Two Towers.
