You make an excellent point, and I appreciate that you have played both sports. I do question, however, at what level you played each -- that is, how competitive was it and what was the relative skill levels of the players?

And I'll grant that rugby players are by far the crazier of the two groups.

Erm... I may disagree slightly on that point... :D
South Africa are playing Wales and England soon... In fact the last time they played wasn't it in the last world cup.
Just remind me who won the last Rugby World Cup? :D

thats also true!
in football ('soccer' for the yank) playing around with your friends is seriously dangerous sometimes worse than rugby and A.football with the two footed tackles and the kicking of chins and oh yes almost forgot!
NO REF!!

even better is when some nutter calls out 'lets play fouling football'.... which basically involves attempting to cripple whoever has the ball with a waist high two foot lunge - not many goals scored then let me tell you! (too busy crawling to the ambulance :D) you should try it....

When I played football in high school, I always played centre back and always went for the shins. I was too slow to catch people otherwise :D It was fun being "chopper" and it also got me picked quite early just so I didn't hurt then :D

And when I say football players are wimps its with regard to the diving they constantly do, like Shirley says football with mates can be a rough game, still not as bad as rugby but still not pleasent. Although alcohol consumption also hasd a huge effect :D

As a Canadian, I still love hockey more than any sport on the planet.

I would agree that Ice Hockey is certinaly the most exciting sport to watch live, if you're actually there. On TV it loses a lot of the effect...

I was just trying to figure out why you refer to it as "ice hockey" but then it hit me... "field hockey".

I haven't played hockey in years, but I do get the urge to skate quite often. Skating's a physical activity that I'm actually really good at, which helps a lot. I even thought about seeking out a rec hockey league here in Iceland (apparently there is one) just to see if I would be way better than the locals, having grown up playing on the rink in my backyard and all.

They tried to make us play field hockey in gym class back in high school. The stupid little sticks are all for right handers, so I didn't really bother.

only a cunuck would say something like that!!
never played hockey but looks like fun! skating might be a problem!
played hockey on grass against some girls and decided to stop once one of them got a stick in the throat.... suddenly developed cramp or something!!
crazy! they dont were any padding.

Yup. Good old brits. We may be terrible at it, but "Field" hockey is still more popluar here than Ice Hockey:confused: Mind you, we're terrible at that too...

Hey, in "ice hockey" I'm a lefty. I couldn't figure those sticks out.

We also used to play floor hockey in high school. But I hated palying in gym class because the girls all sucked and the guys never knew what to do with the damn stick. IT'S NOT A FRIGGING WEAPON! If you want to hurt someone, knock him down. Hard. But clean. Don't use a weapon. There were always too many guys playing floor hockey that wanted to be hockey stars but couldn't skate. So they never learned how to ACTUALLY play hockey. Basically, if I don't have skates on, I don't want to play hockey.

Rollerblades don't count as skates, either. I still have ugly scars from playing roller hockey on pavement fifteen years ago.

I'm american and can honestly say that american football sucks. Rugby is way more manly and so is hockey. Soccer is cool but just not as intense. Baseball sucks too - worst sport EVER. The only good american sport that is popular is basketball, and... well its friggin rigged!

Ah, so you're one of the inferiority complex type Americans, huh? You're wrong. American football and baseball are pretty much tied for being the two greatest sports ever devised by man. I'm not one of those Canadians that secretly desires to be American, nor am I one of the anti-American Canadians. There much good and much bad about your country. But football and baseball, two typically American sports, are awesome. REALLY friggin awesome.

Basketball is okay, but it's a joke compared to baseball and football.

Ok, so maybe you could explain why you think American Football is such a good sport?
