k, hetan has seen the two episodes (and since we're going for dinner tonight, i'll make sure she posts something on it after -- on the episodes, not my manners).

launch WILL be november 9th at the Park Theatre in Winnipeg @ 7:00 pm. any of you from here who happen to be in winnipeg will be welcome in the VIP area. SE and david keck will both hopefully be in attendance. the episodes will be available online at 7 pm central time also.

we're done; i can't bloody believe it. teaser (next week) and trailer (week after) to follow. new website up shortly too.

So I've read the script, got the t-shirts, the graphic booklet, the dog tags... and now I've been lucky enough to see the 2 completed episodes of the Dark.. And it's very good indeed.
Chris has done a fantastic job on a tight budget and it works brilliantly. The cgi stuff is excellent and so is the background soundtrack. Awesome!
It was great to be invited to the cast and crew party and to see/hear their reactions to it... none of them had seen the completed product before.
It has all the flavours of Steve's writing too... glimmers of information that leave you wanting to know more... I certainly do, and from what I've heard of whats to come it can only get better and better. Way to go Chris! :D

Edit : I'll get round to writing a bit more about it later, once I've caught up with stuff at home here :p

it will be available on every possible channel we can get it onto ... p2p networks, torrent sites, possibly YouTube, Yahoo ... it's important that it be readily available, as we are dependent on subscriptions (for the next parts) ...

Aha, and if one subscribes, how much will it cost, and what resolution will we be able to get?

subscriptions are not expensive; an initial outlay of $20 US to register (and recieve a pair of custom laser-cut dogtags with your membership number) and $1 per 12-minute episode (this is subject to change if necessary, but will not without as much lead time as we can muster to let you all know). the ongoing subscriptions will be billed quarterly (ahead of the show).

should the whole adventure fail, any paid up subscribers will receive a copy of the trade paperback of 'THE DARK' comic, signed by Steven Erikson and others associated with the show. this is because we don't want anyone to feel cheated. it's all moot anyway; we won't fail.

all in all, it's not a lot to ask (possibly even not enough). we'll see what reaction is like when we release the two proof-of-concept episodes. besides, there is also the other issue of the down-time between release of these and retooling for production, which could take three or four months. during this time, we'll concentrate on disclosing our pre-production efforts to our subscribers, letting them be 'flies on the wall' during meetings (not all of them, but many), set-building and parties. and don't forget the forum, with the chance to post directly to cast and crew.

so what do you think? is it worth it?

The Dark Comes to Light November 9th

Winnipeg, October 25, 2006
Good things come to those who wait. After 2 years of pre-production, nail-biting deadlines and a lot of hard work, Irregular Productions, (with their www.rebelspace.com Web portal) in association with Absurd Machine Studios, will present The Dark at a gala premier at Winnipeg's Park Theatre November 9th.

The Dark represents the cutting edge of new media. A serialized sci-fi drama in HD penned by internationally acclaimed author Steven Erikson (Malazan Book of the Fallen) alongside David Keck (In the Eye of Heaven) and Mark Paxton-MacRae, The Dark will be played out in 12-minute segments weekly via subscription on laptop computers, personal digital assistants (PDA's), and eventually cell phones.

The story line is edgy and real. Like waking up in a car trunk with the knowledge that outside lurks certain death. The crew, who comprise the last genetically random humans, wander the reaches of space in a hard used craft filled with anxiety, nervous tension and fear. The task is simple; survival in an existence that is all about finding resources, escaping the gaze of roving aliens and keeping the lid on psyches roiling with doubt and quirkiness.

"This was a means of reaching out to a global audience without having to jump through the hoops of traditional production and distribution formats," says author and screenwriter Steven Erikson. "The Dark will be very direct and personal for the viewer because with this type of production there are no middle men."

"The Dark is simply us trying to tell a great story," adds Executive Producer Christopher Porozny. "Having lived The Dark for three years of development, the launch on November 9th will be the end of the beginning and will see us move forward into the next stage with an expanding story arc and fresh weirdness from the crew of the Recluse."

Please join us as art offers up life inside a spider-shaped pile of space trash when we present the global launch of the first two episodes of The Dark.

Location: The Park Theatre, 698 Osborne Street, Winnipeg, Canada November 9th
Time: Media/Press 1:00/ lunch will be served
Industry VIP's/General Public 7:00- 10:00 with revolving screenings
Global Web Live Launch 1:00 AM UTC/GMT (7:00 CST) www.rebelspace.com
