My general view is that we get one shot at telling a person advice, then it's our job to hush and let them decide what they want to do. Sometimes... often... they decide not to take the advice and it's almost physically painful to watch them go through with whatever it is.
My cousin who I am close to moved to Australia and married a person that I thought was an energy vampire. I told him that before the move and about five other people in my extended family did the same. They've got two kids now and it's my job to support him however he needs, rather than continue to be upset over his decision.
No hitting people, Maccy. Even if you're really mad.

"But yer Honor, he had it coming due to stupidity." is a weak defence.
Also, what Amph said. You can lead a horse to good advice but cannot make him not fuckup his life and also drink.

As I've been telling my mom for the past 6 months while she's putting up with BS from her progressively degenerating parents, "you can't help someone who doesn't realize they need help". There's only so much you can do if the person is destroying their life and unwilling to consider anyone else's opinion on the matter.
It's tough, and its heartbreaking. But sometimes you have to just know when to step aside and not destroy yourself for someone else's sake.

It's like watching a random episode of an obscure daytime soap series. I don't know any of the characters, I have no idea of the storyline or the series' history, but I'm sort of kinda intrigued nonetheless.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

This is why you don't let Maccy drink around any form of telecommunications device.
Or any device, for that matter.
