Wow I thought mine was bad--probably a few dozen for me. I blame reddit and self published authors for their cheap deals.

The list was worse than I first thought...

Some books recently purchased:

SE - Willful Child Search for Spark
Martha Wells – Network Effect
Ernest Cline – Ready Player Two
Chris Paolini – To Sleep in a Sea of Stars
Kyrell Kendrick – Of Gods and Grunts

This is my main to read list, a lot of older series/authors, I've not really dabbled with new authors lately:

Adrian Tchaikovsky - Shadows of the Apt last 5 books & The Doors of Eden
Anthony Ryan - Raven's Blade Duology
Bernard Cornwell - All Sharpe books and the final 3 Uhtred Books
Brandon Sanderson - Cosmere books
Brent Weeks - Lightbringer series
China Mieville - Iron Council / Kraken / Perdio Street / The Scar
Chris Wooding - Tale of the Ketty Jay series
Conn Iggulden - Wars of the Roses series
David Gemmell - Jon Shannow books
Frank Herbert - All Dune books
Glen Cook - Load of random books of his
Guy Gavriel Kay - All books
Iain M Banks - The Culture novels
Isaac Asimov - The Foundation series
J. R. R. Tolkien - The Silmarillion
J V Jones - Sword fo Shadows series
James S A Corey - All Expanse books
Joe Abercrombie - The Age of Madness & Shattered Sea Trilogies
John Gwynne – Read first 3 books of his, got the remaining to read
Josian Bancroft – The Books of Babel
Lev Grossman - Magician series
Michael Moorcock - Load of random books of his
N.K. Jemisin - Broken Earth series
Neil Gaiman - All books excluding Stardust
Orson Scott Card - All books excluding Enders Game / Enders Shadow
Paul Kearney - Monarchies of God series
Peter F Hamilton – The Salvation sequence
Philip K. Dick - Load of random books of his
Pierce Brown – Iron Gold & Dark Age but tempted to wait for 6th book
R A Salvatore - Legend of Drizzt books, first 10 or so
Raymond E Feist - The Chaoswar Saga
Robin Hobb - Liveship Traders Trilogy / The Rain Wilds Chronicles / The Fitz and the Fool Trilogy
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle - Sherlock Holmes the complete works
Stephen King - Load of random books of his
Stephen R Donaldson - The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant
Sylvain Neuvel – Themis Files series
Terry Pratchett - Most of his books bar Post office/watch books
Tom Lloyd - The Twilight Reign & The God Fragments
Ursula K. Le Guin - Earthsea Cycle series

I've got other series like Wheel of Time / Prince of Nothing but I dropped these as I stopped enjoying them.

I've also got the first few books in the series of: James Patterson, John Grisham and Lee Child.

So aye, a bit lost where to start. I feel like I want to read an awesome sci-fi series.

Some books I'd argue your can skip:

Willful Child: Search for Spark - Just not very good
Lee Child's stuff - I read the first two Jack Reacher books and they're bad. Like Scooby-Doo villain bad.
Tales of the Ketty Jay books. Other forum members like them but I think the captain in the books is an incredibly unlikable character.

Recommendations:
Most of the stuff on there I haven't read myself (Or didn't like) but:

Get into China Mieville immediately. Perdido Street Station and Scar are exceptionally good Weird fiction books. Skip Iron Council it's unnecessary. Also read his Railsea book. It's Moby Dick with Giant Mole hunting trains on a posioned Earth.

Dune is great sci-fi fantasy. Very well written. That definitely fits your desire to read good Sci-fi.

I'd also recommend Asimov's Foundation but I read them 25 years ago. I wonder how well they hold up? They're definitely a cornerstone of classic old school sci-fi.

Amateurs.
My TRP, orgd by author, or series if multi-author, is 255 folders. That's just ebooks. Minimum one unread book per folder.
Earbooks, another 257. Folders. There is some overlap with ebooks, maybe 10-15 authors. Plus about another 50 books on Audible or Kobo.
Graphics/comics, another 163. Folders, by series or author. And that doesnt include Marvel Unlimited, Comixology, or Humble Bundle.
Then there's dead tree. After repeated purges, there are still approx 50 physical books, unread, in my bookshelf.

I win.

He's not your classic hero or anti-hero for sure, but you are just wrong about the series.
I shall be writing a very sternly-worded email to your supervisor at the library recommending some "re-education". :p

I got a Kobo last year and have been taking more advantage of the library with it, so it only has one unread book right now.

I have a couple older Kindles that miiiiiiiiiight have a number of unread books on them but would you look at that they are at 0% battery and I can't find their USBs right this moment so I guess I can't make a list I'm FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

They came with white hands and left with red hands.

You know the app will just load up your titles on your phone/tablet, right?

Noted, thanks. I think I've actually read the first Ketty Jay book but didn't feel the need to read the second and that's probably why it's unread.

I have to admit, Railsea does sound kinda awesome by that description but damn, I'm meant to be working my way through the list and not adding to it, cheers haha...

Dune is one of those I've always planned to read but for some reason it's never really called out to me, I think it's due to hearing not as great comments about the later books, is that the case?

That's one of the reasons why Asimov is on the list, I like to read the older books to see how they compare to modern day books.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I'll definitely jump into Mieville next.

I've actually just lent that trilogy to my mate but it'll be moved up the list, cheers.

Start with THE LIONS OF AL-RASSAN (my fave) or SAILING TO SARANTIUM (a great intro to his world and the earliest in the timeline if I'm not mistaken).

Regarding Dune other people here are much more nerdy about the books but as far as I recall, the first three books or the big brick version is self contained. Felt that way when I read it anyway.

I'm taking names of anyone who has typed out their list of books by hand. I'm going to find out where you work and contact your superiors and tell them they need to increase your work load. For fuck's sake, we are in the third decade of the 21st century. A 14 year old could write a script to dump that data into a csv file and format it into list form in under 5 min. Figure this shit out and git gud, cause typing that list out by hand is a terrible way to use your free time.

I've got about 53 out of about 580 owned (I just counted what's in my Kobo account, I have a few books from other places but I've only not read one of them I believe).

Not too bad.

QT read Anathem and The Scar obviously they are masterpieces even if we are now doubtful about the character of China Mieville but in particular read Three Parts Dead coz I feel like the chances of that book/series not getting a double-stamp are quite low.
I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you.
