I haven't even got to Margit yet. I found a portal behind the Third Church of Marika which teleported me to a place way over to the east where there's a mahoosive dragon stomping around on a bridge. But the area near that has these weird little guys patrolling around who're giving over 1,000 runes each, so I've been killing them to level up.

I've been into the red region. Huge castle surrounded by streets and buildings, with blue spirits wearing burger King masks. Bit high level though so I went back after a bit of farming.

This boss battle is great. I only just found the Talisman equipment slots, which act like the rings in DS. So now I'm trying different combinations of spirit summons, flask upgrades and Talismans.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Found a style I really like playing, and am pretty decent at it. Got the Twin Blade along with incantations. Get in, darth maul until my stamina is up, then roll back and drop some fire blobs. Picked up a bow and arrow with flaming arrows also.

Been trying to explore the whole map before moving to the castle.

I farmed those little dudes for a bit. Gotta get them quick cause they hit HARD.

This is why I go for stamina over strength. Being able to hit repeatedly is way better than hitting once or twice and then getting hit because you can't move.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Yeah I've been focusing on stamina over health/strength as well. With a greatshield and spear you can poke while still blocking, and if you find the ash of war for your shield to make it drain less stamina when hit, you can block pretty much everything. Combine that with one of those poison/rot incantations for damage over time, and I'm not taking any damage for most bosses.

Gosh I’m bad at these games … and yet I always play them.

Clicked a treasure box, poof evil crystal cavern. I’m love to explore sandbox games and the whole concept of exploring places I shouldn’t be in games. Got hopelessly murdered wandering and going all three paths (that was a giant throwing rocks at me right ?).. anyhow kinda of waste of time.

Anyhow I rarely guide games , had to on that one.

Enjoying it thus far , just really slow as this type.

I've finished up on getting Vitality and Endurance up to 20, so now I can go full throttle on dexterity. It's deeply satisfying to get an increase in damage output for each level again. Might just continue pushing it all the way to 40 before I return to Endurance. With the claws I get so many hits in anyways, and focusing on dodging as I do, I don't need heavy armor. The only shame is that there seem to be few of the cool ashes that go with the claws. Although the move power is very effective, if not particularly flashy. I might try out the great scythe for variety's sake, I found one in a graveyard some time ago.

I've found very little in the way of armour so far, is that you guys' experience as well?

I've been doing some cleaning up in Limgrave, sniffing out more dungeons that sort of thing. I eat minibosses for breakfast now, or at least I thought so until I knocked on a door in Calid and got completely stomped.

After dicking around with Bandai technical support, which is horrible by the way, and reinstalling, having the stuck on <download %> issue again, and reinstalling again, I'm finally able to play.

Behold! I think I've really captured the concept of "tarnished"

My strategy is to skeeve out my enemies and have them run from the creepy dude in a loincloth swinging a club.

On a serious note, anyone got advice for that cave full of wolves (for basically a naked guy with a club)? I can sneak kill couple of them, but the rest of the pack is alerted and trying to club three as they simultaneously leap at you isn't happening.

Definitely sparse in the early game, picks up a bit once you get to Liurnia, even more once you're in the capital - I've now got a half dozen heavy armour sets to choose from. I think you probably find less, and have to purchase more from vendors, until later game.

My go-to tip is to use a shield that blocks 100% of physical damage and learn how to guard-counter, it's my favourite part of the game and trivializes certain encounters. Best one early game is to farm the dudes with a gold/brass shield at Gatefront Ruins. Might still be tough early game to manage your stamina though, until you get a certain ash of war to put on the shield.

Unrelated: am now both level 120 with around 120 hours played. In the capital, it's big and pretty and lots of things to do. I've switched my main weapon probably 10 times, I've spent so many runes on upgrading. Game just keeps getting better and better.

I think I'll go for a faith based build next time, with heavy armour and shield. Running around with light armour and dual claws keeps me from some of the new mechanics (though it is a lot of fun).

A lot of the minibosses become trivial to the absurd with this build. Getting in five six fast attacks with bleed burns through enormous amounts of health.

I haven't found any better light armour after the set I stole from Patches.

Alternating between +7 Uchi and a wavy Greatsword called dogtooth or something, found in an evergaol. I've levelled it up a bit and it's doing monster damage, the attached skill is nice too.

Ventured into Caelid, got all the way into a heavily guarded castle before deciding I was outclassed, leaving and heading back to stormveil Castle to power up the Great rune I got from Godrick. I only realised I could do this from the wiki, I missed that whole tower gate bit.

Found some good summons now but my wolves are +3 and I tend to call them more than the others. Mini-bosses go down quickly, but I just found the magic academy place and some wizard single-shotted me with a magic bolt. Even if you dodge round and go up the elevator, he shoots me through the floor.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Messed about with the game for about 2 hours last night.

Had to put Steam into offline mode, b/c all the messages, blood stains and ghost outlines were distracting AF.

I picked the most vanilla class (Samurai), but the shield parry with the tiny buckler is pretty terrible.

Mostly I'm just strolling around, trying not to die. I ran out of basic arrows and not sure how to switch to my fire arrows, which is annoying.

Overall, gameplay feels less smooth than Sekiro, but it's still really early. All I did was kill the tutorial mini boss, and got stuck in a murky dungeon with some goblins and a guy with 2 war hammers.

Exploring across the rooftops of this academy is straight-up Demons Souls stuff. And the huge wheel elevator...

Having killed my second Ring holder, I'm inclined to say that so far this has been easier, bosses at least, than i expected?

I just beat the moon queen in like 4 attempts. (Ok so I got smashed by a giant bear after following a ghost into a cave shortly after, but hey.)

Just hit level 40. Haven't used a single spell or incantation yet, just switched out my flask crystals and talismans for the bosses, and set my wolves on them.

Headed back across some earlier map areas now as there's a lot of stuff still to find.

Beat the game this weekend! Time to go outside...

There were three or four bosses overall I really struggled with, the rest were doable within a few attempts - but I was overlevelled and I'm a filthy spirit ash summoner, so take that as you will. Pretty easy to get all the achievements in one playthrough provided you back up your save so you can check out all the endings. Really enjoyed the whole thing, best game I've played in a while.

Elden Ring is completely stomping the shit out of a boss, feeling like a badass, and walking into the next room and getting 2 hit killed by a skeleton.

I found this massive underground cave with a skyscraper sized skeleton on a throne. I wonder if that'll have more meaning as I get farther into the game.

Welp, that patch has killed the performance on my pc. It was running nearly perfectly before but now I'm seeing huge frame drops and stuttering.
