yeah, that's a good point too. I don't want to end up in the bottom heap when there's a couple more months of play left.

I was talking with a friend in my boardgame group the other day, reminiscing about the grand strategy games we haven't been able to play for more than a year. And discussing previous sessions, I realised there's a noticeable difference in my playstyle there compared to here. When we play TI in real life, I am much more agressive and expansionist, whereas here I tend to fall into a pattern of expanding somewhat and then hunkering down. The win rate is roughly the same, but I wonder why that is. Perhaps all the additional time to mull over my moves makes me more paranoid of having missed something.
It could also be that it's a adaptation to how forum communication happens, and the fact that a game lasts a quarter of a year rather than a weekend day: less inclination to making moves that could ruin someone else's game, perhaps? IRL, there is always the snacks and drinks to escape to, here the misery lasts ages.

True, I am entirely ruthless in our normal games, and we've played together for so long it's an expected part of how I play and the others have long since adapated to it. It's a fun either way when you can just relax with a beer and talk to the others.

I cannot believe I missed this. I think I have a way to win on this turn. I am so pumped, I just need to investigate the map a tiny bit!

Blend, please, if anything is going to be epic it may be on you. Can I move through your ships? Pretty please with cherries on top? I'll give you both my ceasefire and trade agreement. Nothing is certain here, it certainly is a roll of the dice, but Morgoth moving from Quann opens up a last ditch attempt to stop IH or Twelve winning

If only Khell moved out of the asteroid belt last turn, this would have been easier.

Blend may, and I say MAY, like the idea of the game being decided by an epic battle over someone popping leadership and imperial. I am obviously biased, but its not nailed on, I don't even know the odds.
7 cruisers, 2 destroyers 5 fighters and 2 mechs of mine, versus 4 dreads, destroyer, cruiser and 5 fighters of Morgoth.

unless I'm mistaken you'll need 2 turns. 1 to attack Quann and then 1 to attack my homesystem through the gravity rift? It's doable I suppose, good luck

Yes with Minister of war, I can remove and go again.

I think the odds are in your favour Morgoth, but there's a chance, and you won two games ago with a 30% chance.

Good thing I didn't
So if I'm not mistaken, you need Blend's assent to do this? Interesting to see if he lets you, but I can't begrudge you trying this instead of stopping IH.

Also you need to win in Quann without losing too much, AND get through the gravity rift with good rolls? Insane, I love it.

On the other hand, Blend could just say no and force you to go back to contemplating attacking IH instead.

Let's say you lost one fighter to those two dreads in Quann, and then lost nothing to the gravity rift...you'd have about the same percentage chance to beat Morgoth in his home system.

Losing two of your nine ships to the gravity rift makes your chances almost zero - and that's if you lose the destroyers rather than any cruisers.

Oh hey, guess who just realised that Abaddon is not a 1/0 planet, but actually a 1/2 planet with one of those explore upgrades?
This guy!
All this time...I think I have a real blind spot for those extra things next to planets.

I need to look up the wording of the minister of war thing but isn't it an action to use it?. So even with fleet Logistics you wi need 1 action to move closer. 1 action to remove the token and a third action to attack Morgoth 's homeworld?
I don't know what I'm doing but it sounds good.
