There's being faithful and then there's mediocrity. Or being afraid of taking chances.

Somebody put this TLOU2 Vs Halo Infinite video together in a jiffy:

The difference is ridiculous.

I mean anything you see on youtube already had the visual fidelity destroyed. That said I do agree that the game doesn't look amazing as it should. Certainly not 'next-gen'.

Rewatched the Halo demo in 4K 60fps. Didn't change anything for me. It looks like a Halo Combat Evolved remake. Not next gen Halo.

I'm pretty disillusioned at this point. This is what they're leading with?

I mean, it's more Halo. It looks fun.

There's a map with objectives, suggesting it's open-world now. There's more ways to get around and shoot things in the face (grappling hook)

I mean... it's a shooter. It's not easy to revolutionize an FPS, lol. What does "next gen" mean?

Ionno. People are going mental over graphics, but what percentage of people even own 4K tv's?

Microsoft did fine. I'd say it's 8/10, same as Sony. Neither showed anything insane. And Microsoft will still get all the money, because goddamn, GamePass is gonna be an amazing deal.

I liked what I saw. Having games pass means I can keep expectations low and enjoy games for free. Avowed, Halo, Fable, Crossfire, Stalker 2, Warhammer game, Everwild are all things I’ll play. Might play Ori again on Xbox series x.

The Gunk‘s visual style seems like the studio behind Journey to the Savage planet, but apparently is a different group.

Anyway,

Grandparents shopping this holiday season. "Can you help me young man, I'm looking for one of them games the kids play, my grand son says it something called Gunk, or the Gunk."

Uncle invited over for Thanksgiving, passes by nephew's bedroom: "Hey kiddo, what you playing?"

Nephew: "The Gunk"
Uncle: "The what now?" "You said what?"

It'll probably be a digital release.

Also, it's aiming for a release next fall according to their web site.

Probably not, but honestly I don't know. NDA involved - the fact he's working on it is genuinely all he's allowed to say.

Whelp, looks like I'm getting an X-Box Series....FABLE rebooted? Fucking hell yes. Those games were some of my favourites of all time for both story and gameplay.

Add in Gamepass and HALO, AVOWED, and EVERWILD, WARHAMMER: DARKTIDE and I'll never stop wanting games...

Recent Polygon article suggests that the team still hasn't settled on what the core mechanics are going to be... they have "an exciting idea" , but nothing's nailed down yet, which is why they aren't really talking about it.

Which kind of annoys mean, since I want to know whether I should continue being interested in the game or not. And if it turns out to be a Sea of Thieves-like affair designed from the ground up for cooperative play then I'm out, no matter how \gorgeous it looks.

I struggle to comprehend that Microsoft hasn't secured a concrete lineup of big game releases for their launch, let alone year 1.

It's been two video conferences now with nothing that sells me on buying the console Day 1.

Watching the debate about whether or not Halo looked like trash has certainly been entertaining.

Yeah, but PS5 was like Here's GTA again guys...and a couple of other games that you could probably play on PS4...

No one here is swinging for the fences...but I'll give the edge to Microsoft on the quality of the look of games in the queue, regardless of the time it takes to get them to us.

Hell, if AVOWED can capture the Elder Scolls/Skyrim vibe that it's aiming for...damn, they might beat ES to the punch on grabbing that style of RPG success.

Oh don't get me wrong, PS5 isn't looking hot either, yet, but I'm rooting for Xbox. They've had 5+ years under Phil Spencer's leadership to plan how they get back in the game and counter Sony. Tech and services are all well and good but where's the console seller? Sony's strength is games, you've got to bring that AAAA with the extra A if you want to compete.

The cachet Sony has created and the momentum they have from the current generation going into the next gen gives them a leg up at this point, regardless of what has been revealed so far, especially with Microsoft not really coming with an OMG! reveal as of yet. Microsoft has one more of these events, right? I anticipate it is going to be a "save the best for last" presentation, to create maximum hype before holiday season purchase decisions begin. I hope they bring something that blows my hair back, and curls my toes, because I really want to (to want) to buy the Xbox Series X One X Plus X Series X, X <<<< added an"X" just to to be safe. General rule of thumb for success living in the 21st century - never can have too many Xs. Posted Image

Sony's 'strength' is melancholy single player games.

I find it surprising that ya'all haven't realized yet that Microsoft doesn't think they are competing with Sony or Nintendo. They want to be the Netflix, the Amazon Prime, of gaming, not 'just another console'.

Every. Single. Game. Shown. Gamepass. Day 1.

That's bonkers, and an amazing value.

But even Netflix and HBO and Disney need flagships. Game of Thrones and Dark and Watchmen, etc.

Think about the current news cycle. Think about this generation of games. The narrative is that Sony is the console to own because it has outstanding exclusives. New stunning IP. Xbox has old tired IPs. Xbox has a good service but I assume they still want and need to sell consoles.

They just did a showcase with little to no gameplay that can demonstrate why Xbox is the machine you want to invest in. Their flagship title looks like something that coulde have come out on the 360.

I don't want the Netflix of gaming. I want games, good games, new games. generation defining new games.

What if you could have both? The better the games, the more subscribers. The more subscribers, the bigger the game budgets. The bigger the budgets, at least theoretically, the better the games. Look at the big streaming services pumping tens of millions of dollars into short seasons of high quality TV content.

Ideal scenario yes. The execution of that is where the rubber meets road.

My position is not one of screw a Neflix for games approach outright / don't want anything to do with that. I just don't want to see a pivot to that being a priority over quality games. Microsoft, the behemoth it is, can pull it off though. I mean, they are gobbling up studios, right? Maybe I fit into a more specific demographic that is going the way of the dodo bird as it relates to console future and will need to investigate getting into a gaming rig and become one of the PC master race elite. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Would hate to get pulled into chasing that dragon and keeping a newly acquired addiction fed trying to stay current with the latest tech.
