It looks really good. I'd be interested to hear impressions from anyone gets in on the early access.

Larian Studios did a new stream to discuss Early Access. Early Access starts September 30th.

They are actually talking quite a bit about the setting and the start. And you can get a walking pet brain ^^

I have little interest in playing a story based RPG before it's fully done, but I am glad you guys want to so I can get an idea as to what to expect.

Some of the cinematic mouth/movement isn't perfect, but its EA.

Pretty great so far, interesting characters I want to know more about. I like the story, and some of the encounters I've had, and have loved and loved to hate some of the NPCs I've come across.

My only complaint so far is holy shit, this goblin camp, they all have 12-20hp, many archers that shoot exploding fire arrows at you, and they often go first. It's hard. I've not seen any kind of difficulty setting so I'm guessing I'm on normal, I don't often play RPG's on settings higher than normal, and this absolutely feels higher than the standard. Also, my PC's are lvl3, so many have them have equal HP to the goblins I'm fighting 5-10 at a time, your party is capped at 4.

Also, Larian brought the 'shit all over the floor' mechanic from DOS2. Wizard's fire bolt (cantrip) lights things it hits, and the floor around it on fire, even if they are standing on stone. Wizard's Ice Beam (cantrip) creates Ice all over the floor that anyone running over has to make a dex save to not fall prone. Every goblin you fight seems to throw/shoot fire flask/arrows and acid that apparently reduces AC if you stand in it.

Also, the cleric companion you get early is so very fucking un-optimized. Her spell DC and to-hit are low, so she has around a 50% chance of hitting any attack, and shes a trickster domain, so she doesn't get the heavy armor you'd want as a melee fighter, AND her dex is crap, so she doesn't even get help from that in medium armor.

They gave everyone access to the 'aid' action, so they can get people up from unconscious, which is a change that I think I like for a video game.

Oh, and final 'random thought' in my head. Everyone you fight is ruthless. Doesn't matter if they are animals or sentient creatures, they'll charge your wizards/squishies first and smash them, bypassing closer targets that may have even already hit them. And the goblins, at least, if someone is unconscious, they attack that person to kill them, even if other people are up and in range and being threatening. It also seems like if you get someone up from unconscious, they don't get a full action on their next turn, which is frustrating.

All in all I absolutely love it, but the goblin camp is super frustrating for me, and I'm certainly not at any kind of boss fight.

PS - you're capped at a single short rest between long rests, which kind of completely fucks up my Warlock because it means I get 4 spells a day that aren't cantrips.

Are there any hints that this would make it to consoles? Specifically PS5?

bit odd though that a random beast would run past the big guy in their way. Goblins i get.

Their other games have, eventually. I'd expect a 2+ year gap though.

I agree, and the logic behind the goblins using their attack to kill someone making death saves instead of the warrior still chopping them with a greatsword feels off to me, as someone who both DMs and plays, unless you're fighting a specific enemy that HATES a specific player, you don't do that. Especially when there's someone standing next to them who is still seen as a 'threat' by the enemy.

There was early access last Fall. What's the most recent communication about BG3?

It looks pretty cool.

As these things go, how long before they get to official retail release? Or is this just the strategy? Just make incremental updates as the user base grows and provides feedback?

I think this is the approach they are going with, buddy of mine said a while back they tried buffing wizard by giving their cantrips elemental effects similar to Divinity Original Sin 2. Issue is that playerbase complained it made them too strong...

Bit of a balancing act... as by 5e standards... yes thats too much power in a cantrip (being able to cast firebolt and have a damage over round effect, or frost bolt and create difficult terrain? But BG3 also isn't a pure DnD game so idk which way is correct.

I believe there will eventually be a full retail game out, but it will be a while before such. I hope this doesnt turn into a story of infinite development hell... but so far everyone who has played the game is enjoying it.

Apparently higher ground is a huge advantage and druids have an easy time getting to higher ground.
