Was in the lab until 10pm yesterday. I'd bloody love to be cooped up, I am stressed out of my head with all these clinical trials. We will most likely be joining in with the Oxford vaccine trial next week as well.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Apartment announced last Monday that 'mandatory' inspections would be going on all that week starting Tuesday morning. Worried most about being on the toilet when they entered and being unable to wash the floor where they step before my cat gets it on her, so I was getting up very early every day and feeling like a bobblehead in a zombified haze. Had small carpets and rugs laid down across my main carpeting so I could quickly roll them up and toss them in a closet for a few days. As with last month's pest inspection, they never showed. Hopefully that means it's over now a week has passed, though I'm reluctant to ask, because there's a decent chance the people assigned to do it just decided to skip some without telling their bosses.

Unfortunately my cat has now become accustomed to being fed earlier, so she's probably going to start wailing if I try to start waking up later....

Urgh.

My sons nursery are working to a 1st June reopening. I think it will be 70 days by then. Various changes are being discussed. I am not really expecting any of the measures to protect our household from infection. Definitely not convinced it is the right thing for the nursery staff so we are just keeping an open mind to pull him back out if it starts to feel more wrong. The majority part of me is approaching it like it won't happen at all as I think UK cases are going to start rising exponentially again soon. So hard as an individual to decide what is right. Which I think is the UK governments plan.

Yeah, I feel you. Our daycare has been following the ministry of Education shutdown so far, but with schools closed till fall they will need a new plan...I don't know if they could aim for a June opening...MAYBE July...but yeah, how do you ask toddlers to social distance? You can't. So I don't know how this will work.

My boss has four year old twins and she was talking about this last week - with the same air of not really knowing what to do for the best. I think she and her husband were erring on not sending the girls back until the new school year, but then was worrying about if work will still accommodate child care needs in terms of her hours if it's been deemed safe to send children back. All rather messy.

Indeed. Most people I know seem inclined to think that getting kids back into school/care/daycamps whatever is integral to getting people back to work in large numbers. One cannot happen without the other.

Super messy.

'Florida's scientist was fired for refusing to "manipulate" COVID-19 data

[...] Jones' removal from her position in charge of the Florida COVID-19 Data and Surveillance Dashboard she created, she confirmed [...] she was fired because she was ordered to censor some data, but refused to "manually change data to drum up support for the plan to reopen."'

'Trump Says U.S. Having World's Most Confirmed Coronavirus Cases Is "a Badge of Honor"

[...] "I view it as a badge of honor," Trump explained. "Really, it's a badge of honor." "When we have a lot of cases," Trump continued, "I don't look at that as a bad thing. I look at that as, in a certain respect, as being a good thing because it means our testing is much better." So, when you really think about it, what we're actually doing is winning the pandemic?'

Burly white-bearded man in Trump hat walking towards him: "No, I got hydroxychloroquine, I'm fine."
Reporter [backing away]: "I'm just standing here, this guy will not get away from me"
Man [continues following him]: "You're worthless! [Giving him the finger] You're worthless!"'

Trump tweeted a portion of that video with the comment: 'People can’t get enough of this. Great people!'

'Man Shot Up Waffle House After Being Told to Wear Mask

[...] wanted to purchase takeout food but was told by a cook that he couldn't place an order in person without a mask. When the suspect returned later that evening, he allegedly had a mask but still refused to wear it and was again refused service. At that point he allegedly placed a gun on the counter and threatened to "blow [the cook's] brains out." When he returned for a third time, he was again rejected and allegedly slapped the cook before opening fire, hitting his victim in the chest or abdomen. Authorities in Colorado confirmed that a man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. "The victim was transported to the hospital and is recovering from his injury," the Aurora Police Department said.'

https://www.thedaily...s-says?ref=home

'People Keep Shooting Each Other Over Coronavirus Restrictions

[...] We've spotted at least nine shootings related to these restrictions since the first statewide lockdown went into effect on March 19. According to an analysis of news clips and Gun Violence Archive data, at least four people have died and seven have been wounded in incidents that run the gamut from disputes over coughing in public to anger at businesses refusing service to customers who aren't wearing masks.'

https://www.thetrace...otings-tracker/

Numerous reports of people being physically assaulted over mask policies, though a cursory Google search didn't turn up an exact count.

'A Target employee in Van Nuys, Calif., ended up with a broken left arm after helping to remove two customers who refused to wear masks.

A cashier told a man refusing to wear a mask that he could not buy a pack of cigars at a convenience store in Perkasie, Pa. He punched her three times in the face.

In San Antonio, a man who was told he could not board a public bus without a mask shot a passenger, the police said. The victim was hospitalized and the gunman was arrested.'

And rampant verbal abuse:

'One Cape Cod ice cream shop's opening day will now be its last day open to the public, at least for now, after the owner claimed his employees were disrespected by angry customers.

Mark Lawrence, owner of Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour [...]

"One of my best workers quit yesterday at the end of her shift, she stuck it through her shift," he explained. "But the words she was called and the language, you wouldn't even say in a men's locker room. And to say it to a 17-year-old kid, they should be ashamed of themselves."

According to Lawrence, it was posted online that all orders had to be placed one hour in advance.

Still, he claimed, customers didn't listen and instead took their anger out on his employees when the parlor got busy and staff could not fill orders right away.

"All of the sudden word spread like wildfire and nobody listened to what we told them how the protocol we had set up," he said Saturday. "People have forgotten how to treat other human beings in the six or seven weeks that they've been confined to their homes. They have no clue how to respect other human beings."'

'"How Could the CDC Make That Mistake?"

The government's disease-fighting agency is conflating viral and antibody tests, compromising a few crucial metrics that governors depend on to reopen their economies. Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas, and other states are doing the same.

[...] combining test results that diagnose current coronavirus infections with test results that measure whether someone has ever had the virus. The upshot is that the government's disease-fighting agency is overstating the country's ability to test people who are sick with COVID-19. [...]

This is not merely a technical error. States have set quantitative guidelines for reopening their economies based on these flawed data points.

[...] The widespread use of the practice means that it remains difficult to know exactly how much the country's ability to test people who are actively sick with COVID-19 has improved.

[...] "You've got to be kidding me," Ashish Jha, the K. T. Li Professor of Global Health at Harvard and the director of the Harvard Global Health Institute, told us when we described what the CDC was doing. "How could the CDC make that mistake? This is a mess."

[...] Nordlund, a spokesperson for the CDC, told us that the inclusion of antibody data in Florida is one reason the CDC has reported hundreds of thousands more tests in Florida than the state government has. The agency hopes to separate the viral and antibody test results in the next few weeks, she said in an email.'

This. Also people gather in crowds at ideal viewing spots, going against social distancing guidelines. The problem is made worse by doing this rah-rah bullshit.

The new guidelines in Denmark state that Cinemas can reopen but there has to be at least a seat between every viewer.

The dream has come true!

Is that a seat in a radius?

Also, surely a couple would sit together as they are living together anyway?

Naturally they will enforce this policy by placing sex dolls in the intervening seats. (Easy to hose down....)

thats actually quite clever. Mannequins will perhaps help make restaurants feel more lively while keeping tables apart.

I don’t know how restaurants can survive this mess though if they have to cut numbers in half. They will have to double pricing which won’t happen and half of all waivers are now jobless.

My mother and immunocompromised step-dad have decided to drive down to visit my sister and her family because they are and I fucking quote "tired of all this"...and "I'm fine, we're fine"...like no amount of me trying to tell them about being asymptomatic or an of that resonates beyond their Boomer mentality of "I'll be fine, and this is boring"...they are also visiting my niece who has had lifelong health issues leaving HER immunocompromised as well. Like bottom line is that two of the people involved in this are of the type that if they get this virus...it would likely kill them, and another would be seriously threatened by having it.

I told my mother that this is not a good idea, and I got within a hairs breadth of calling her selfish, and I could HEAR my stepfather (who's always been opinionated AF) huffing in the background at what I was telling her and I could almost hear him roll his eyes...and I'm sitting there like MOTHERFUCKER I'M TRYING TO KEEP YOUR 'CANCER & HEART SURGERY RECENTLY' ASS SAFE AND ALIVE!

They aren't listening. So if our numbers spike in the next few weeks you can probably add my family to the people causing it.

Oh, and to add some fun to the proceedings in my city...some of the co-workers of the friend of mine who is a respiratory Therapist are refusing to social distance any longer and one even called it "just the flu"....if the very people we expect to be on top of nailing this virus to the floor refuse to believe it's as bad as it is..while BEING on the front lines where it's happening...what the fuck do we expect from society.

Sorry, I'm just lost and fucking angry today.

Yip I was saying to someone the other day. I find it amazing that in a world of internet and Netflix, limitless entertainment, food deliveries, running water, heat, air con etc people still can’t apparently survive being in their homes for two months.
