What's not to like about squadrons of iconic jets flying in precision formation?
Waste of taxpayer money?
A distraction to attempt to placate people who should be aghast at the federal and local governments coronavirus response?
The fact that we pay these 'heroes' (nurses and grocery store employees and truckers) such little wage to do such an important job, while asking them to keep doing it and some of them to die, so in response we're going to have our pew pew jets go zoom zoom over cities as a "thank you"?
I could go on but I think I've got my point across.
Exactly. There's a PPE shortage in a lot of places, lack of emergency equipment, essential workers in most places still aren't getting hazard pay (in addition to the fact that a lot of them could use a fucking raise in general), shitloads of people are laid off, and the federal government chooses to spend money on... jet fighter flybys, apparently.

And do you feel the same way with the police and firefighter drive by's?
I mean, very different things for obvious reasons.
We do NHS drive past things but it's only part of the shift. Everything else is continuing as normal. Spending thousands to distract the masses is very different to emergency services taking a short part of their shift to do something nice.
Totally agree. A squad car or firetruck swinging by the hospital during their shift that they're doing anyway is a huge fucking difference from flying military aircraft around for no real reason. And "thousands" is an understatement. It's incredibly expensive to fly those aircraft.

Lol I could ev posted this part in the happy thread but I just saw a serious shit paper Charmin commercial with the family of blue bears watching tv while a voice over says they are working the clock to ensure we will continue to get the shit paper. It was amusing and lacked the impact of any other corona emergency commercial I've yet seen. Fail
27,286 cases 1,758 deaths 17,303 recoveries.
Stay at home officially extended to 5/15 with hopes to meet for Phase 1 criteria by 5/11.
Honestly I fucking hate commercials that even reference Covid-19. Stop trying to monetize this. I was relieved last night to see a normal, generic pickup truck commercial with a guy driving on a dirt road to do some work or whatever, because I've been so annoyed with companies making their commercials be about the pandemic.

A flyover for one F-16 costs $20,000. We're talking two squadrons here in the busiest cities in the nation. What if we just spent that several hundred thousands of dollars on properly fitting masks for the essential workers?
Would be a lot more supportive of them than a one minute flyover.
And the same could be said for police or firefighter parades going by on a daily basis nation wide. I don't see the ra ra s going on for that. And plenty of people and business are donating to corona relief.
Calling police/firefighter vehicles making a quick detour to go past the hospital a "parade" is a bit hyperbolic, no?
That's quite a bit different (seeing as how police are on patrol anyway... and seriously, I'm normally the last person to defend police, and firefighters are on alert anyway) than scrambling enormously expensive fighter jets with obscene fuel costs.

Yes, how the hell does that even work? Isn't that sort of like, y'know,
fencing stolen goods?
We've got a saying about how the fence is as bad as the thief.
What's the saying? Honestly don't think I've heard it.

The evening local news has been good for some positive emotions. The local leader in weather accuracy is needing a hair cut, posthaste. It's been fascinating to watch his coiffured journey over the last month and half.
Haircuts are easy to do at home if you just buzz your hair super short.
