I've attached an infographic I found on reddit about how fast Wuhan is spreading, compared to other recent scares.

edit - its a little large but I'm not sure how to trim it down, and frankly I can't be bothered.

Ugh. It's bizarre to me that something can simultaneously be so predictable yet so disappointing.

For joke to funny, must punchline. Is no punchline here. Only despair.

They are quarantining people being returned to the UK from Wuhan in a conference hotel we use for work quite often. I'm due to stay there in April. It is a bit freaky. These people aren't even infected but it makes you stop and think. Some local residents are complaining.

There is a guy in the UK termed a Super Spreader. He caught it in Singapore, went skiing in France, infected about 8 people and then came home to the UK and infected 5. I think he is healthy despite having the virus. He's been in quarantine and released a press statement identifying himself yesterday. Not sure I would have done that due to the level of ignorance out there. Knocked Philip Schofield off the top spot of most sought after man in the UK for a Sunday papers interview.

I would hate to learn that about myself. That I possibly and unknowingly infected uo to 13 people with a potentially lethal virus. All the while not knowing. Huge mindfuck

Looks like China may have been underestimating infection rates just a wee bit. Well colour me totally unsurprised.

https://www.news.com...39151476b5474e3

I guess they can give this test of version 2.0 (SARS being v 1.0) a cautious tick.

Was the WHO appeasing China in delaying a response?

https://www.news.com...bf90d5e7e5f1c07

"One adviser to the WHO told The Times: “(The agency) has great difficulty in being openly critical of a member state as its only real power is persuasion.

“I suspect praising China for their response was the best way to keep the Chinese on board.”

It seems China knew about it even earlier:

https://www.news.com...ca69c910d16340e

The paranoid conspiracy nut in me (oh come on, we all have one to varying degrees) thinks this one is testing infection rates and unfortunately for China it escaped the local lab into the population before Chinese agents could test it somewhere else.

Isn't there something about the three characteristics of diseases/viruses are lethality, contagion rates and ... is it incubation rates?
Like the holy grail of biowarfare viruses has high lethality and contagion rate, but a very slow incubation so by the time people start dying it's already spread everywhere?

Rupert Murdoch news!

Anti China!

Blegh, I really don't know who or what to believe now, every news report is suspect for different reasons. Chinese government lying, Rupert Murdoch lying for his own interests, everyone telling lies!

It's not a tinkered virus. There are absolutely no signs of anyone having bio-engineered it. Sequencing analysis so far points to natural evolution of the virus. There is also no evidence for under-reporting of cases by the Chinese government, as the current infection figures are in line with estimates made from epidemiology studies.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

They should parachute Rupert into Wuhan. He's right up there in the list of 'If you could travel back in time, who would you stop from being born?' individuals.
