Vaccine shopping is not going to get us out of this.

It's happening too often. In Canada we have Pharmacies being the only people allowed to use the AZ vaccine and it's been relegated to 55+....Sooooo, Boomers. Boomers who believe "newspapers" as hard fact...as such, guess which vaccine the Boomers all don't want now? The AZ ones. So we have a population that needs vaccinated, and the people who have been deemed the right demo to get the AZ Vaccine to avoid any rare clot issues that have occurred, are now vaccine shopping and waiting and getting Pfizer or Moderna instead. My own FIL did this, he refused the AZ vaccine and waited for the Pfizer because "reasons".

We will be in this longer because of such sentiments about a perfectly good vaccine.

Correct, and I agree with your sentiments. I just have reservations about the stated comparisons with e.g. birth control pills, which I already elaborated upon upthread. I also share the opinion that there currently are no reasonable grounds to delay the rollout.

I have to admit to having dismissed the whole blood clot issue for now. Unless the numbers significantly increase proportionate to vaccine doses given. The clot numbers are so small that they are irrelevant to me as an individual. I'm sure if I get the AZ one and have a headache soon after I'll feel a bit paranoid but covid, long covid and the economy are larger personal concerns right now.

A friend has long Covid. It's nasty stuff. She has had it for a long time and I'm not sure it's going away but she's now walking with a cane.

This is a Doctor who specialised in viruses etc and was one of the Ebola Fighters a few years ago and spent a long time in Liberia fighting that when it was a thing. So it's not like she's been silly or not caring/taking cautions...

FWIW I got the AZ vaccine. Had some random aches and stiffness today but I've been at work and that isn't too unusual so I am just getting on with life.

Let's see what the case rates are in two or three weeks time. I'm not fussed about queuing outside so much as the infection risk outside is microscopic.

Once the schools opemkng was done with not a massive spike the big one for me is the May date when people can go indoors again. Those are the big two I think where we'll know whether this works or not.

We lost our minds briefly this weekend and took the kid to Legoland! I don't know what I was thinking, apart from "fuck it". Social distancing and masks were alien concepts to a lot of people there. If we haven't come down with covid in a week or two then I'd say the UK is in good nick to avoid a third wave until Autumn.

They lowered the age for AZ in Ontario, so I went online this AM and booked a jab for this after at 3PM. Can't wait for my Bill Gates 5G connectivity!

What has our goverment been doing:
Blaming the federal goverment
Begging for more vaccines
Increasing police powers which the police have pushed back on saying they are not comfortable randomly pulling people over.

Its infuriating how incompetent our goverment is handling this.

Meanwhile, they are cutting fundings to pharmacies, one of my friends got laid off. Imagine that... being laid off in the middle of a pandemic when you work as a pharmacy tech....

Nope, minimal exposure, just me and the pharmacist, masked. Two ppl came in off the street looking for shots, but were masked and far from me and didn’t hang around long. Perks of getting it done at a small out of the way pharmacy, and not a shoppers or rexall or Walmart I guess.

Got my second Pfizer shot last Thursday.

First shot went poorly. Pretty much had every common side effect: fatigue, soreness, chills then fever... and it blew up my sinuses like sinusitis. Scheduled a doctors appointment cause of that. Said it was the shot that just caused my immune system to go crazy. Ok. Said to expect second shot to be worse... oh joy.

Second shot went great. Next day it felt like the left side of my body (where I got it) got worked out extremely hard the day before so I was super sore, stiff, and muscles tight. But that was it! Lasted a day.

Now good to go!

So the Island came out of its third lockdown on Monday and already we've had 5 new cases. I'm not sure how that's happened but everyone's now dreading the thought of going into a 4th so soon. I dunno how they're going to play this one more, as well over half the adults have now had at least one of the vaccines and a steadily rising number have had both. They may try to risk it for a bit.
