Coughs are not exactly precise things to gauge. Either are low grade fevers. If you can't smell or taste food, I would definitely get in line for a test.

So, maybe one of you medical types can answer this: when they say persistent coughing, how persistent is it? I only ask as yesterday morning I woke up with a cough. Every now and then I will cough. Today I still have it. It feels like a bit of a chesty cold type cough but I don't have a runny nose or anything.

A year ago I would have thought nothing of it but now I'm freaking out. I don't appear to have a temperature or loss of taste/smell so I think I'm fine but the paranoia in me is going into overdrive!

I read a more clear definition somewhere on the NHS website. Can't remember precise details but it was something like noticing yourself coughing a lot at least 3 times in an hour and the type of cough that would stop you sleeping. So sounds like yours isn't persistent. The symptom checker seems so clear and easy until you actually have to check a symptom!

Nah. While I might have 3 coughs in an hour, especially in the morning, it's not consistent and I slept very well last night.

I cough once a day in the morning. I think it’s just drier air from season change maybe

Here is an anti-mask (anti-lockdown) group (note the camo/hunting hats and jackets...these are out of towner rural Ontarians, NOT Torontonians) who came to cause a ruckus in Toronto Tuesday...

There was an anti-mask protest a week or two ago in Vancouver as well. Caused a ruckus on the BC ferries on the way over apparently.
Kinda lost any tiny bit of credibility they might have had when David Icke (who thinks a hidden lizard race runs the world) was one of the speakers.

FYI I have the definition of "new, continuous cough" from the Department of Education as I just had a reminder from my kids school. It means "coughing a lot, for more than an hour or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours".Don't ask me to define "coughing a lot" or "coughing episode".

Thanks Mezla, either way it doesn't fit. Temp was low again today and the coughing is infrequent. Not other symptoms either.

People here have decided fuck it, covid is ohvah.

I was at the station filling up with gas (I think you others call it 'petrol'). So I pulled up my skull bandanna (doing the Halloween themed John Marston train robbery face mask motif) and I got my hand sanitizer on my dash ready to use when I've finished. So I get out and go through the *beep-boop-beep routine of setting the gas/petrol to begin filling. And this jackhole on my island (no mask), just on the other side of me is filling up his truck and is spitting and gobbing like he is a basball player from the 1970s or something. And this fucker is doing the deep chest rattle to really pull up some deep lung butter to hawk it up on the ground. And he did this throughout the time it took me to fill my car. Like I legitimately think this fuckstain was doing this just for attention and to be one of those "no mask-it Kevins" to make his little statement about wearing masks. I just shook my head, finished filling and used the hand sanitizer when I got back in my car and drove away.

The EU has now shut travellers from Canada out as our handling of COVID 2nd Wave is not going well, and we are spiking cases hard all over the country.

Man, I need us not to become the States.

Our PM and Premiers need to step up and make some harder tougher choices and lay down the law, because we are going to be more lost come November/December if not.

I'm freaked out.

What's your rate per 100,000? Perspective may help. I get freaked out now and then but try to look to facts and lived experience. My local rate is 88. My 4 year old is in school every day with a "bubble" of 60 kids. Me and Mr PigDog are WFH but he's going to the office on the train once per week. We're socially distancing, wearing masks and not going out much. We rarely remember to use hand sanitizer. One person I socialise with has a family member who flouts the rules like crazy. We still don't know anyone locally with a confirmed diagnosis.

My sister is being not very careful and living between Manchester and
London, both with pretty major outbreaks. She's fine.

I'm completely onboard with it being real and social distancing being necessary but perspective is good.

Yeah, you guys are pretty much dealing with it as we are...though our 4 year old is doing virtual so she's home with us, our 2 year old is in daycare in a 10 kid cohort.

We do however have close to home COVID diagnoses, two teachers at my kids daycare had it (luckily didn't pass it to anyone else), and my local comedian friend has it, and my niece (who does not really follow the rules) works at an LTC with people who have it.

I'm a worry wart and my wife is a hypochondriac, so we are always concerned, even in the bigger picture. I doubt I'll be normal again till this is over.

And I still worry a LOT about long term effects we don't know about yet.

Maybe it's just common sense. People don't have it anymore.

So I had the opposite experience of the gas station "no mask-it Kevin" incident. So we received about 4 - 6 inches of snow over Sunday night (and throughout the day on Monday). So Tuesday morning I am out shoveling snow. I don't have a mask on because, well, I'm outside... shoveling out my car and the parking pad and sidewalk and there is no one else around (6 ft social distance? how about no one around to social distance from). So I finished with the sidewalk and am doing the snow shovel back and forth shuffle clearing off my parking pad. As I clean the area closer and closer to the house, this fellow with a mask is walking up the sidewalk in my direction. He's probably a neighbor's house away. I look up and we lock eyes (reminder I don't have on a mask, he does have on a mask). He does the awkward, oh just don't mind me quick glance away and I continue shoveling. When I make the pivot and turn to shovel back in the direction where we spotted each other, he is gone. So this weirdo must have been freaked out by seeing me without a mask and turned around. *in-my-best-joe-biden-voice "Come on man."

My parents did something massively frustrating. We have a puja that is the culmination of about two weeks of celebration, called Dashain. Indians call it Durga puja.

The way my family does it involves a morning puja with my nuclear family and an evening puja with the extended family.

The morning one was very good. Everyone wore masks, we all were safe etc.

My partner and I come to the evening one and there's 26 people with no masks on. Including my parents who just did a masked session with me.

I got through what I needed to to fulfill family obligations, while wearing a mask and so did my younger brother and my partner.

I then had to set off a family cold war by saying that the risk of their actions was unacceptable to me and that I wasn't going to see them.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

It sucks to fight with family over stuff like this.

I had to wear my reading glasses to the supermarket today for the first time. I've been getting headaches and I'm just getting old damnit. First time wearing a face mask and glasses. Glasses came off about 5 steps into the shop. What the hell are you supposed to do to stop the damn things steaming up? Do people with glasses just not go into indoor public places anymore or what?!
