Listening to local radio on the trip in this morning, there was a discussion about "maskne", and topical treatments to apply to your skin to alleviate this condition. I have luxurious, olive skin (great genetics from my mom), so don't have a problem with it. Also, I do something called, "the laundry." People should look into this life changing technology. You can buy these machines that will clean your clothes thoroughly and quickly, so you no longer have to dip them in a river and slap them against a large boulder.

Any you savages suffering from this new phenomenon known as face mask acne - aka maskne?

No, but's it's not unthinkable. People have different skin types (though yes, you absolutely should be washing your mask reguarly, by hand works just as well as machine washing, and you can boil it afterwards for at least five minutes to kill anything the washing didn't manage to just in case). It can get really humid beneath the mask which in turn can aggravate/cause acne.

Case in point, I had to switch to disposable masks as of this week because my number of asthma attacks skyrocketed once it hit 25°C here (from having none at all ever due to a well-maintained meds regime to two a day, and no, I don't have the 'Rona). Since I'm sensitive to heat for unrelated reasons and humidity always makes it more difficult for me to breathe, the humidity and fabric barrier together were not fun. You can't really take deep breaths with a mask, at least not the kind you need for physical activity (like running across the damn main train station of a big city because out railroad company thinks being on time is a vague suggestion at best). The disposable masks, as much as I hate the waste I'm creating his way, are at least light enough that I can do a brisk walk without ruining my entire day.

Another problem I've encountered is that my lips are chapped and dry beneath the mask and I cannot do anything about it because using lip balm and wearing a mask is nasty.

Also, make sure you have a tin of Altoids on hand. If you eat sushi, or boiled cabbage, or broccoli salad, or <insert stinky meal here>, you're going to be blasting that dragon breath right back into your nostrils when you have the mask on.

Oh yeah, the feeling too, especially when getting into a hot car on a 90+ °F day. Sitting in that oven with the heavy, oppressive air and having the mask on. Damn, that's gotta be considered as a replacement for water boarding as an "enhanced interrogation technique." Shit is downright oppresive to breathing freely. I can't get my face mask off soon enough in that particular situation.

NBA basketball puts its "The Bubble" experiment into action this evening (eeek! in Florida no less!). Any you "hoop dreamers" gonna get your squishy seeing orbs on the proceedings? Pro baseball (MLB) has experienced some of 'da rona' outbreaks and have had to cancel some games. MLS (soccer/eurosyle ball toe punching) has had a pretty clean run. So, what's the opinion about hoops? Gonna have an outbreak? or nah bru we good.

Too be honest I’m pro vaccine, I’m a biochemist. I still don’t wa t o be risk given how rushed this is. That said when the trials are done we should have the data we need. I’m happy to let others volunteer for that though

Heat coming back today putting the index in the 105F range and you can absolutely see the difference in people’s behavior. It’s just shy of the heat when the order came down a few weeks ago and oh boi are these hot ass mask hot and damp. Seeing the attitude and raised voices return already.

I wore a mask for 6 hours outside in that level of heat while being a legal observer at a protest. It's doable - not the most fun - but doable. Lots of trips to the peripheral to drink my water far away from other people.

The humidity is a serious factor as well, but "uncomfortable" beats "serious medical complications". It's going to be real shitty to get through, yet we can do it.
I survived the Permian and all I got was this t-shirt.

I'm getting very fed up with the government advice in England. They are encouraging people who have been working from home to physically go into work from today. Yet they are also putting the break on some lockdown easing and adding additional restrictions in the North West where infection rates are climbing. Now I know that they want office workers back to revive the flagging commuter economy but why not just take the economic hit and start focusing on restructuring the economy. It has to be better for the environment if nothing else. I assume most employers who are getting decent productivity with staff at home won't risk it and I know I'm in a privileged position of having been working at home already so not at risk of losing my job but it is clear that people need to stay apart instead of migrating to workplaces every day. We are going to be heading into Autumn and Winter with high rates and when people are forced inside by the cold and wet and close windows then we will be back to square one. People are bloody idiots too. One quiet summer without a lot of socialising or a holiday abroad is not that hard in the grand scheme of things.

People are fucking morons.

And our government is farcical which does not help.

Blanket announcement, wear fucking masks everywhere.
Please do this, make them the norm not the exception.

Over here there is a monthly machinery sale (small provincial thing) it's been cancelled until now, first one is today.

We called last night during their set up to have a walk and see what all is there. They have made an effort to spread all the lots out and there's hand sanitizer and signs everywhere.

That said today is going to be a shit show. Trying to explain to a bunch of old farmers from the hills why they can't crowd around every item being sold....

I mean it pissed me off at the best of times, most people are only there being nosey, only about 10% of the crowd does any actual bidding, you could have 50 odd idiots wedged around a tractor and only 2 trying to buy.

I'll have my buff with me, I imagine I will be in a depressing minority. The second the lots I'm interested in are gone I will be bouncing

Good luck with that.

In other news, me and my kid have sniffles. He picked it up at nursery. It's definitely not covid but viruses are clearly travelling even with the measures in place and there's no point thinking otherwise. He starts school in September. Whatever happens I really need for school to still be a thing because if we have to home school a child that can't sit down for 2 minutes unless he's eating or watching TV then things are going to get bad.

Stopped in to one of my favorite taquerias over the weekend (drive-through), they have some of the best street tacos I've ever add. But here's the story - this little hole in the wall restaurant is located at a strip mall in a less affluent, higher crime portion of the city. Located at this strip mall is an asian massage palor. So we are sitting there enjoying our tacos, and this upscale looking sedan pulls in and parks. This little old white man (must have been at least in his 70s) gets out and he is dressed to the nines, is immaculately coiffed and, as is required now, wearing a mask. It's hot, so we have the windows down, and as he walks by making a beeline towards the massage palour, we can smell his Bay Rum aftershave very strongly. And there the oldster goes, right inside. Dude was needing to be touched. Probably had the Robert Kraft package pre-paid for.

Saw the annual roasted chili station being setup at its yearly spot. Gives me reprieve from "da 'rona" blues and is a nice dose of normalcy in this crazy year. Outdoor operation (obvi), so if people mask-it (instead of casket Karens) and keep 6 ft apart, we can all enjoy something that reminds us of the "before times." Roasted chilis are the bizzity bizzomb! And are an annual reminder we are about to make a turn into autumn/fall. Eeeeeek! The darkest winter in modern memory is approaching!

What is wrong with people? I had to stop in the middle of the road because some guy was driving right at me on the wrong side (my side). Good thing he was at least observing the speed limit and we were in a lower speed, residential zone. With me stopped, he had ample time to correct himself. I lowered my sunglasses and gave him the glare as he drove by. He just traipsed on by with that shit eating grin that is so popular for people to cover their faces with when they know they done fucked up. Does he have the 'rona?

Okay, yet another - "WTF up with peeps!" - moment. This time a guy, at a Starbucks, and it is busy mind you, drives his car up, perpendicular, like he is going to drive through the front door, right up to the curb, parks, gets out and pulls up his face mask and walks in to pick up his order. Dine-in is not open, but you can go in for 'pick up' orders, and you can eat outside, with social distancing observed. There is plenty of parking spaces for legally parking your car. But this charmer decided - "fook that sheet, imma pull right up to the front doors." So, based on these observations people have decided traffic laws are on pause until a vaccine is developed and 'da 'rona' is eradicated? (btw, it will never be fully eradicated, many doctors and experts have said so). People have gone absolutely mental, and I'm scared this is the new norm.

First time wearing a mask today. It has become a requirement with public transportation in my area.
It's not really that bad. Annoying? Sure, but not at all like it's anything like an issue.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Honestly, I've been wearing it now so long that I barely notice it. Secondly, I've accepted it into a fashion thing with multiple versions. I'm like an urban shinobi now when I go out.

I'm waiting for Fall so I can have my hoodie on and my mask...for the full ninja effect.

So, you're using reusable masks? I've been looking for reusable masks (in Denmark) but none of the ones I find seem to live up to the medical standards that are recommended. You can get them with replaceable filters but there's no info on their specifications.

Which sucks because I'd much rather buy a handful of reusable masks, than the one time use versions that the pharmacies are selling.

In the UK they just recommend a "cloth face covering". Everyone who ever made garments is now making and selling reusable fabric masks. I have some very comfortable ones and just wash them with the regular laundry. Apparently 3 layers of fabric are ok. I think it's important for healthy regular people to not use up anything that healthcare workers or more at risk people might need. This thing could go on for a few years and stocks need to last. Nevermind single use plastics - climate change hasn't gone away.

As a replacement I'm sure the reusable masks are a good stop gap, I'm just worried that when masks are eventually made mandatory in the fall, anything less than medical grade will be banned.

Technically, nothing less than medical grade, is good enough and you're putting yourself and others at risk by setting for almost good enough.

Yip I’m looking for a good one too. Amphibian shared some from an Etsy store above, under armor seems to make a good one here in the states but pricey. But I’m starting g to think price is worth it since I have to wear one every day. I want it to fit well and be cool.
