Hi All,

I'm getting pretty far along with a map for the Genabackis. It has been taking a while as I try to develop a new style. It is more detailed than the map I did for Seven Cities. This is my first pass at providing place names. I'm still adding trees and styling the labels and frame. I still need to make the water areas more textured.

I'm particularly unsure what isthe Tarthen Range. I have labeled it, but I think it might be the range in the farthest top right. I'm wondering if I labeled part of the Grinning Face range. It makes sense that that Grinning Face range should have a full smile. What do you think?

Any comments are welcome.

Thanks!

The detailed northwest Genabackis map from House of Chains indicates that the mountains just south of Owndos Sea are actually the Owndos Range, as opposed to part of the Grinning Face Range (it also makes it clearer what exactly the "Grinning Face" of the name is supposed to be). I think you've got the Tarthen Range right on your map; it's not named on the HoC map, but the river right to next to it is the Tarthen River. Then again that river passes close to the far northeast mountain range too, and it would make sense to name what seems to be possibly the largest mountain range in the area after the Tarthenal, so I suppose there's still some ambiguity there (though looking at the full Genabackis map, it seems like a weird choice to squeeze in the Tarthen Range label where it is if it was meant to label the far northeast mountain range when there's plenty of space to the north of said mountain range).

Thanks for the feedback Zerv. Yeah, I was thinking of putting the Tarthen Range label in the far NE Mtn chain. I need to go back and reference that the NW detail map. There seems to be a lot of interpretation that can happen between the two maps.

Looks amazing. Great work :)

Something that caught my eye, I don't think, that Capustan, Lest and Maurik are located directly at the sea. On the maps all of them are a bit inland, with Maurik just being very close to the river of the same name

And yes, it is really difficult to say to which mountains the name Tarthen Range belongs. I would have guessed the NE one, but can't say for sure.

Thanks Coltaine.

Yeah, now that I remember, I don't think Capustan showed any water on the map. I think I want to go back make town, city, etc icons.... we'll see.

Hello,

If you could help me with icons, I'm trying to figure out...

1. Major Cities, Cities, and Villages. I took a shot in the dark. In the Malazan Wikia page, most of the towns are listed as cities.
2. Should I just make all the cities listed here as Mid-size cities - https://malazan.fand...iki/Free_Cities
2. What Northern towns can I remove? Top part of map is getting busy.
4. Do I have the Confederacy of Free Cities listed right.
5. Do the Confederacy Free Cities make sense as forts. I felt they are pirate bases.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I can't answer any of the questions you asked but I did notice two things in the legend. Free Cities of Genabackis is quoted with two closing double curly quotes instead of an opening & closing pair (though that might be a limitation of the font), and at the bottom you've got "As seend on" which doesn't make any sense to me.

Do you do prints? I'd love to have this on my wall when it's finished.

It is quite difficult to decide which settlements in Genabackis are cities, towns or villages. In a lot of cases we just don't have enough informations. I always assumed that the former free cities, Darujhistan, Genabackis, Corall and Elingarth are the big cities on the continent, with the other ones being smaller.

I guess Marktown, Culvern and Stopmouth are probably not that important, as they are only listed on the map of North-West Genabackis. As there are some differences in the geography between this Map and the one of the whole continent, you could maybe just use the towns from the big map.

March, Exile, Refuge, Bounty and Gold are confirmed members of the Confederacy of Free Cities. New Landing probably. For the rest one can only guess. Huerly was definitly not one, as it was only a rebuild fishing village. The fort symbol works in my opinion. By the way, I always assumed Trygalle to be an inland city due to the south of the plains of Lamanath reference, but also here are missing a lot of information Posted Image

Cool thanks for noticing those issues.

I'm not sure about the prints... might be a copyright issue. Mainly did it for fun. At a minimum, I can just upload the full resolution version.

Thanks for the input Coltaine. I basically made most of the villages cities now. I checked the Wikia forum to see what was described as cities versus villages. I've updated the map and am almost done.

I just need to update the Map info section... still not sure what todo there.

I'm not totally sure if I want to do this, but should I change crimson color to a purple-ish hue to match the Malazan colors?

I kinda like the crimison, but I'm not sure.

What crimson colour? Are you referring to the map legend backing colour?

Looks good as is IMHO, but try a couple of richer darker colours if you're going to go that way.

I think this maps is in a good place for the near term. Barring any egrigious mistake, I might say this one is done for the moment.....

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

one more exploration.... I didn't like how the compass was attached to the info box. I also wanted to add a globe with the position of Genabackis.
