May as well start a thread about this show as a few of us I assume will be watching.

So far so good. This looks cool.

It won't embed, BTW, so you'll have to click THE LINK

And poster, spoilered for size

Spoiler

And the "rescue effort" referenced is apparently tied to the opening go JJ's Trek movie from 2009, not the Kelvin timeline stuff, just the Prime universe stuff at the very beginning, with Romulus begin destroyed by the Hobus Supernova...so as Spock chases Nero through the black hole into the Kelvin timeline, we see Picard in charge of the rescue efforts for the refugees from Romulus in the Prime universe and something happens around that that clearly makes him leave Starfleet.

This is going to be INTERESTING!

Please also note that they released this today...on the 25th anniversary of the airing date of the final TNG episode ALL GOOD THINGS.

I mean...fuck, that's amazingly timed.

"The uploader hates Canada and has not made the video available in your country."

I'm mixed on this, because it feels like a shameless cash grab, but the fact that Stewart was willing to do it does suggest the product may be worthwhile.

I'm kind of expecting season one to be him on a ship as a guest or diplomat or something, slowly assembling a coterie of plucky young attractive misfit sidekicks, then season finale has him/them take over the ship, he finally, finally says "ENGAGE" for the first time all season, run credits, wait for season 2 suckers. Then season 2 is basically TNG but with less fights and less sex for Picard.

I mean Disco has been EXCELLENT and some of the best Trek has ever been, so I expect a high bar for this, and a less flashy, more character driven show.

And this could tie directly into the ALL GOOD THINGS finale stuff...just have Geordi show up and talk to him in the opening.

Also, could not help noticing the TNG theme played on a flute over the title card, pulling up THE INNER LIGHT feels!

This is just an excellent teaser.

Think of it this way: CBS All Access is $5.99/month, which is less than most movie tickets. At worst, you'd be paying the cost of a few movie tickets for a full season of TV -- and if you wait to binge, potentially just the price of one.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Blerg, can't even see the trailer using the VPN. CBS are xenophobes!

Which is ironic when the show is about meeting new aliens and stuff.

I had to go Youtube searching to find one to watch.

I hadn't realised the timing of the release with All Good Things... that's a nice touch.

I'm a little bit in the same camp as Abyss in worrying it's a cash grab, but then I remember when Stewart announced it last year, and he's so sincere about it and what TNG meant to him and to others that I don't think he'd be happy bringing Picard back unless he liked what they were doing with it - and i remember all the way back then he said he probably wouldn't be a captain any more, so the bare bones of "why did you leave Starfleet" were clearly in the air all that way back.

Here's to hoping!

I'm going to have to decide on a new subscription to see this too. Although now GoT has finished I could do a swap from Now TV I suppose.

If it helps, it’s going to be Amazon Prime everywhere but the US and Canada.

I have been trying to avoid Amazon Prime for ethical reasons. I don't agree with the lust for next day deliveries when the drivers are all forced into zero hours contracts and have no employment rights. In the UK anyway. And the warehouse staff are badly treated.

So does my Trek obsession outweigh my principles.....?

Just when I thought I was out, they suck me back in.

Next Day deliveries from Amazon in Canada still come through the postal service...in the UK is it amazon that delivers thing directly?

I don't know how it works exactly but they use subcontractors who use self-employed drivers.

Not entirely. There are a host of subcontractors that handle amazon next day where i typically order from. It is Canada Post barely a third of the time.

Anyhoo we're getting it on Space Channel (Canada's SyFy) here, which is fine tho it means we have to suffer the ads.

This does not help me as we cut our cable months ago.

So it will be Crave for me then I guess.
