Finally saw this from. Utterly loved it. Was not expecting R Patz to be so good. I dunno if this is part of a planned new thing or if this Batman is replacing the Affleck one in the DCCU, or if it's just a non canon one off but it has to rank up there with the best. I never thought I'd rate one as highly as the Nolan trilogy but this is probably on a par

Just watched this, have to agree, it was far better than i was expecting and very entertaining.

It REALLY rides the line between movie Batman and comic Batman in a really interesting way. Like there are tonnes of shots that FEEL comic-book-like but also grounded in a bit of reality.

The thumb drive joke, delivered by a deadpan Battinson is such a great comedic moment. I like that buried under the emo-ness there is the deadpan-Dad-joke Batman we so often see in the animated movies.

Now you can be excited to see the HBO MAX PENGUIN tv show they've made in this universe.

Is that a Penguin TV show with Colin Farrell playing the titular role? I couldn't believe it was him!

If they were so blown away by Farrell as a gangster boss they could have cast him in a new show as a gangster boss without a Gotham/Batman veneer that cannot possibly match or carry well from the film.

...but what do i know, PENNYWORTH got three seasons, GOTHAM got five.

To be fair, PENNYWORTH appears to have been a decent spy show that benefitted from the loose Batman association. If it were crap the audience wouldn't have stuck around for three runs. GOTHAM pulled it off based on loose connections to Batman and being as batshite crazy as they could get away with, bcs there is an audience for that kind of show.

Contrast w BATWOMAN that leaned right on in on being a Batfam thing, got one a premiere season in, lost its lead to controversy or just being a bad show, depending on what you believe, took a shot at a second and even third season likely just to ride out some contracts and get anything back in money invested in sets/costumes/etc, and buh-bye.

There's clearly a market for these things tho the one and done mess of GOTHAM KNIGHTS suggests it might be played out, but they're going to try again w Farrel anyways.

I was kinda medium on the movie, but I'll watch the show, Penguin's cool and all -- but I do think a lotta people in charge of Batman properties over the years overestimate how interesting Gotham's normal gangsters are. We need like a 50 year moratorium on these dorks putting Falcone and Maroni in the shows and movies. Who cares how Batman deals with the mafia.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.
