Richard 'I look like the villain is a romcom' Tice with an interesting spin on the Makerfield loss.

Reform voters voted tactically to get Burnham in.

Ok

Yes that's definitely likely... When they had a racist creepy perv to vote for, they went for the Labour candidate. Doesn't sound like Reform voters!

Starmer resigns, at least it was half dignified compared to the last few PM oustings.

Was he a good PM?
Not really, was he the worst ever like the media have been screaming? Fuck no, he doesn't even crack the top ten worst PMs (a good 5 of which have been recently)

I guess the question now is can Labour manage to get back to the thrier roots or will they continue down the route Blair started 3 years ago with New Labour?

The problem is he has done some good stuff but it is very much overshadowed by many of the other things. Mainly the pandering to the right wing and anything related to Israel/Palestine (the jailing of the Filton 4 is an absolute miscarriage is of justice and the proscribing of Palestine Action as a terrorist organisation leading to the arrests of 100s of peaceful OAPs to and the like is a stain on our country). So he's definitely not the worst but he definitely spent far too much time focusing on completely the wrong things.

I saw a picture of a Lettuce with a clock face on it, and I knew what was up.

I think he took the wrong lessons from the party winning an election. When Labour won, it was time to govern like a left wing Labour and not a right wing pandering version. I think people (not the media) react negatively to timidity and pandering more than they do left wing things.

Nah he was more interested in purging any left wing element of the party than actually focusing on what makes Labour, well, Labour. He did it in the name of "rooting anti-Semitism from the party" which was a long running thing they continuously hurled at Jeremy Corbyn, who was a true old school Labour lefty. I never saw any actual anti-Semitic stuff, just a lot of people repeating the accusations ad nauseum.

I suspect a certain genocidal country of which many Labour members are part of a lucrative "friends of" society had a lot to do with said accusations.

So indeed he has got a few admirable things done but none of them will mean much when you look at some of the ridiculous, rights-stripping things he put in place.

He actually did quite a lot of good things. But the bad things were so bad that the volume of good things was never going to keep up.

He could have done an avalanche of good, but supporting Israel through a genocide and punishing people for protesting against that, as well as the Goon Laws, will be his legacy.

It's a bit sad really - he could have actually been pretty good generally if not for those particularly egregious cock-ups.

It should be lost on no one that Thiel is such an unhinged lizard that he saw LOTR and decided to name his mass surveillance software after the seeing stones the villains use.

Ha!

I should e clear, I don't think Thiel has even read LOTR (or the Silmarillion)...I think he just saw the movies and thought "I'm gonna do that and name it after those stones Sauron and Saruman use to watch everyone."

Birthright Citizenship was upheld 6-3. I know I’m not treading new ground in saying this but have have Alito, Gorsuch and Thomas ever found a Republican case that they haven’t found a way to turn themselves into knots to support? Originalists when needed, textualists when needed, standby by precedent when needed, overturn precedent when needed, support state rights when needed, support a sovereign president when needed.

Why say this? You know he is an enormous fan. If his views today are in conflict with yours or even the theme of the book to suggest he hasn’t read it is is a stretch. The planter aren’t even very prominent in the films.

If you want to point out his falults talk about his post democracy beliefs, he mentorship of jd Vance.

Ripping into billionaire villains who have lobbied and dictated the strife the world is going through VIA the US Trump admin.... is somehow off the table? What?

That's weird man. I said it because it's funny, and because an "enormous fan" of JRR Tolkien would understand the text of which he read...Thiel clearly does not.

It should go without saying that defending a literal god complex billionaire who my words don't affect in the slightest...is strange man.

Two decently sized scenes in which they are shown to be both dangerous (Scene with Pippin and Gandalf) because he has no idea if the Enemy has one, and used by the two main villains to spy/talk (Saruman & Gandalf)...seems prominent to me. Shrug.

Do I need a reason to make a comment about a fandom I belong to which I feel he's utilizing for evil shit? I didn't think I did, but YMMV.

eDIT: Also I apologized in the other thread to you about our interactions, but somehow you're still here policing my posts? I'm unsure why.

Apologies, I haven't seen it or I would have responded. You have nothing to apologize for. We have been members of this forum for decades and I believe that we both have always treated each other with respect as is the general tone of the forum. We don't agree on everything and we don't have to, but I do not believe we have ever engaged in personal attacks or gotten even close to heated enough for a moderator to have to step in. I sometimes procrastinate from work I should be doing by coming to this forum and other times I cant respond to every post I would like to because of work. I had truly meant to message you as it happens, to explain that I felt perhaps we were both reading more animosity in each others posts then is there

Similarly, please do not mistake the intent of my post. I do not mean to nitpick you or defend Peter Thiel. I confess I do not know much about him other than his post democracy beliefs which I do not agree with (For now I think Trump and Musk occupy top spot in my mind as billionaire threats America and my peace of mind). I see much to criticize there and as billionaire public figure I agree he is fair play. The purpose of my post was meant more to suggest you attack him for his stated beliefs rather than resort to attacking him for not reading a book he has almost certainly read.

Also, in the past when I looked up the context of his wierd quote it wasn't to attack you, it was simply as I said at the time because that quote was so wild that I could not believe any rational human being could have made it. In the actual lotr suggesting Mordor is the innocent industrial country at risk of attack by woke/hippy/eco-terrorist elves or whatever point he is making is so out of touch with the book that it would truly be a sign of insanity to think it. That was my motivation for seeking out the contact, I just could not see a world in which anyone could think those things.

Won't make a difference to the fruitloop or his voting base.

Ala Trump, he and they do not care for the rule of law or even the appearance of caring

This is the thing. Even with vast amounts of evidence, they'll cry that he's been unfairly targeted and that it's a witch hunt. Bunch of useful idiots indeed.

So, it might seem that Maine Democrat Senate candidate, Graham Platner, is done!

Platner allegations of rape!

Screw you all, and have a nice day!
