And there's a BIG difference between "Government officials use their power to try to improve people’s lives -- AGREE" versus "Government officials should use their power to try to improve people’s lives -- AGREE". Plus, saying you "Strongly Agree" that " [Your local] Government officials use their power to try to improve people’s lives" would lead to very different conclusions regarding your support for populism depending on whether you live in, say, the Faroe Islands versus the Philippines. Except not to this quiz since those are both part of "the rest of the world".

Progress isn't a straight line, because there is not alignment of opinion, interest or direction.
So you have 7 billion people towing a massive object with ropes, but they are not all the same strength and do not pull the same direction.
There are certainly a number of troubling indicators for the immediate future based on current events. How those resolve and are reacted to will then set up what happens next.
The World Wars and Cold War were in many ways a dark period, but there was still progress during those years, and the resolution of those conflicts shaped the progress that followed.
So I guess I am saying that if you thought we were moving to a fair, representative 'one world' state where war was obsolete and rights universal, then we are indeed moving backwards, But I'd say it is not and never was getting to such a goalpost. Things are messier and slower than that.

(Also do you guys not actually know who AMLO is, he's the recently elected president of Mexico, pretty far left, and a 'populous' in the sense that he actually cares about people, but that didn't stop the American media from trying to paint him as the Mexican Trump)
