It's official: 2019 was Australia's hottest year on record.

At least it wasn't just me going "Whew, bit warm this year!"

Normally I would put this in the Phoenix Inn > Messing with Groove thread, but I think the climate situation needs to be bumped up.

So this afternoon in my area the entire front range of the Rocky Mountains were hidden behind a blanket of smoke (and a faint campfire smell is in the air) from fires burning in the West. The worst this season and quite possibly the worse I've personally seen yet (although that is debatable because either last summer or the one before there was a day or two that were really bad).

Well it got worse. Now the city skyline is like viewing it through a veil of fog, except it is smoke. I've got a pounding headache from this and my eyes are stinging. And it's supposed to be in the mid 90s for a high temp. I wish I could dampen a colossal eldritch horror's blanket with cold water and drape it over the area.

We had weeks like that last summer and the one before. I am sure in the Okanagan it is terrible right now. Last year almost the entire month of August was a write off as far as outdoor activities was concerned due to how smoky it was.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

And of course, Tories and boomers are using it an excuse to rag on everyone else. 'Back in my day we didn't let a bit of sunshine slow us down!'. Morons.

One has been quite vocal about using the "lol snowflakes are melting" analogy. Unsurprisingly, he's bankrolled by oil/petrol companies.

Working from home, every door and window wide open and it's 35 degrees... ugh!

Us Brits are not used to this...

Off to the cricket tomorrow, I think the heat is going to be too much...

Heyo, for the window thing, you want to open them at night when the cool air is around, then shut them in the hot times, even putting drapes on the windows to cut down the amount of sun/heat coming in. Cool down at night, then stopper up the cool air and endure as long as possible in the day.

I hope it gets better.

Shades pulled during the day, for sure.

And if you haven't already, get some houseplants that are renowned for their health benefits.

My office and some of our labs are nicely ventilated, so no problem fortunately. Better than working from home, my wife was really struggling today.
