Just to add, I see Duiker being played by an older actor, but someone who is still pretty tough - Sean Connery! (Perfect!)
Arnold Schwarzenegger as Bult?

I got dibs on Nil or Nether (can't remember which one is the bloke!) They are pretty cool.

Nah, the only dessert we have in Saskatchewan is the one to the west of us we call Alberta. Burn Rodeo, Burn!! Posted Image

I don't see anywhere in Canada that would work. Australia seems fine to me.

@BAD - how would one go about starting with GotM? It would take 2 hours to introduce enough of the key characters to make an exciting movie.

Start with Chain of Dogs and go backwards once its the super hit that it invariably will be and Patch and SE have unlimited, blockbuster budget. We have to stick with the Lucas formula on this one, me thinks. (right up to, but not including the point where we waste the unlimited budget on subpar directing by said creator)

Damn, I love being wrong on this one! Posted Image

Looks like I owe you a beer, Patch! Luckily, I can do just that when you come to Australia to film and make me an extra, right? Posted Image

Ohmygod!

You know what's real funny? While I was reading this book I was imagining the terrain for the Chain of Dogs scenes with this place in mind. I live near Osoyoos and the place is decidedly desolate and desertlike.

That jaw... you could draw straight line with that, using it as a ruler! he is too clean cut and cheesesque for me I think. I imagine Coltaine as really rugged and battle scarred (if you take that dudes face, then add the hair and beard of Tom Cruise in Last of the Samurai you've nearly got it...

And Sha'ik Reborn... Thank you! Posted Image

but there are basically no results for your name in Google

It is own a reunion list on the google I did but the name means nothing as anyone could take a name from the Acknowledgements in SE's books.

But really there is no use continuing this line of discussion as SE is the only one that can 100% confirm the legitimacy of Patch.

So if SE confirms it everyone can thank Nakijo for his scepticism as it will be the first we have heard from him in half a yearPosted Image.

Y'all are quite rabid, you know.

okay, now...Cause: yes, i have a script almost done...Steven has seen act 1 and liked it, but is too busy with book 6 to actively participate (he'll read it as a whole and then we'll revise what needs revising) ... he will have final say on what it looks like because a) it is his work and B) i wouldn't be doing this without him. as for who i am...a friend.

Monoch...rail away...steven's popularity grows by the day...it will not be long until (i think) he will eclipse his fantasy peers..he also has some general fiction about to be published (i hope i'm not speaking out of turn), which will help make his name a household word...chain is a couple of years away from being a film, but it will be one...if i can do a good enough job of the script (and i have lots of help).

cyandor...tolkien is a children's story... frankly i have tried many times to slog through it without success...the good thing about tolkien is that the success of the lotr movies has opened the eyes of the industry to the potential of fantasy films...we do have a plan, you know...i would not risk posting what i have without one...

monoch...steven was an artist first...do you not see how that impacts his visual style?

anyway, folks...i sure appreciate your input, and will continue to follow the thread

'Malazan' is a nationality, not a race. Kalam is black. I think Quick Ben was black (though it's argued that the reference to his "dark skin" proves something more akin to Indian/Arab skin tone).

Unless you mean the Wickans? I don't recall them being black though...I'm currently re-reading it so don't count that as an opinion.

In my opinion after thinking about it for a bit I think Billy Bob Thornton could do it pretty well. The only other decent suggestion I think is Geoffrey Rush for Duiker.

For Coltaine. Been Watching this thread for a while for some reason Coltaine is getting much more attention than Dukier. In the Book Coltaine Barely says much throughout the whole chain of dogs. At the war meetings He'll say a few sentences at the end and thats it, then theres the the talk with Gesler and Co and the Khundral, somewhere at the start as well is him talking. In the Book Coltaine never got a huge amount of Dialouge compared to Duiker. Just to add which is why SE is so good, in that he managed to make everyone cry for someone that barely said anything, it was what he was trying to achieve that made him so noble.
How much Dialogue is in the script compared to the movie I dont know, probly more.
Personally I think the Best suggestion for Him so far is Antonio Banderas. Coltaine has to be age 30 minimun I think too as he was older enough to have lead a Rebellion in the wickan wars, what 15 years ago?
Just my thoughts anyway.

Hell yeah

I know that this could be absolutely fantastic if they pull it off. Just make sure its done RIGHT and what SE wants!

Which one did Sam Elliot play in "We Were Soldiers?" That was a cool movie.

@Patch.

If this is going to work you are going to have to be bloody good at diplomacy and writing the end so it seems like something other than it is. One read of the story by anyone even remotely knowledgable about cinema and they will read the story and think hey this is kind of good. They will get to the bit that is the most evokative nine words in literature for me anyway, "The Wickans! The Wickans! The Wickans!" and they'll fall in love with it...

...Then they read the end and throw it away in disgust because everyone will see the film as just a fantasy version of Spartacus and how obvious the connections to Rome are in that part. That kind of thing is horribly cheesy and people hate it.

Also you have played this well already but you should do a bit more. For one you should broadcast this more throughout the internet as if it already has a cult following before it is even put on the table to a potential film company (I know there's a better word for that but I'm just having one of those days) then you will have a handy card to play in negotiations. This worked with the Blair Witch project although in a different way but it still shows you how the net can be used. Another tactic you can use (this ones a long shot) is to aproach certain actors who are into fantasy (namely Robin Williams) and get them in on monetary backing or other areas of the film (I just can't think of film lingo today) because they often do that sought of thing. But for god sakes don't let it just sit because the more hype that can be generated by us fans the more it will seem viable to fund.

There is other advise I have but I'm really off my game today so I'll write it later.

Yeah, i think Vin Diesel is taking it a bit too far, definitely not the kind of actor that you woould really want in this kind of film

My only concerns is that for realistict battle scenes of the scope of those in CoD will require a very large budget and a skilled director, both of which must be difficult to get!
