Chain of Dogs to be a movie!

I'm impressed with BAD's suggestion of Danny Trejo. He would be fantastic as Bult, or even Coltaine (the man doesn't get enough lead roles, but when he does, he really shines). There are other benefits to him - he's not a big name but he has been in so many movies that he is instantly recognisable

Reference the discussion on Duiker's age: he must be played by an older actor. His background as a foot soldier is an integral part of his character and some youngish fellow just isn't going to cut it. What does everyone think about Geoffrey Rush?

@Simeon
Yeah, Duiker has dark skin (being from one of the nations at the centre of the Malazan Empire whose native race is dark), which is how he managed to blend in as a native in the Seven Cities

Woo... mammothPosted Image

Could you give us some indication of the kind of scale of the film? Is it gonna be in all the cinemas, or will we have to scrimp and save to buy incredably rare copies from internet movie geek websites?

I think Mel Gibson should direct and the title should be "The Passion of the Coltaine."
OK, I think I got it, but just in case, can you say the whole thing over again? I wasn't really listening.

hey folks...keep it up, and you'll save me a bundle in casting director fees...seriously, it is great to hear your suggestions about who might fit where

@tiste simeon
coltaine's march is quite perfect for a movie....heboric et al. will not be in "chain', but who knows, maybe another film...the idea from the outset was to do independent but related films...and, having had a very evil thought just the other day, i will make sure there is some original stuff in the film just to make it different than the book (or maybe i'll make duiker female...just kidding)...but have no fear...i'll make SE write whatever is needed so it will be consistent...

@all
sorry for taking so long with those images i promised...they are coming.

thanks Tiste Simeon, you're soo sweet. Posted Image
i hope that its filmed in England too, so i can get a part too. but probably will be Canada seeing as it is SE home country.

personally dont think bruce campbell is Coltaine. just not manly enough i think. Val Kilmer would be lovely but dont think he could be Duiker. can totally imagine Danny Trejo being Bult. and i think someone slimier than bob gunton should play Nethpara.

NO! NO! KEEP IT LONG! LONG!
I'LL SIT THROUGH IT! ALL OF IT! We don't mind, at all.
And yup Actors can be made to look ugly ie. Val Kilmer in Alexander, pretty good make up with the lone eye and stuff and all the "evil" dudes in LotR. So getting ugly actors is just stupid. U get actors who can act, leave the looks to the...well...the ppl who deal with taht...AH HA! Costume...no...MAKE UP! or watever the department is.

Patch i was actually thinking of a sort of opening thing not a final scene where the marines are saying how rough they have had it and then duiker speaks up and starts his tale

Opinion accorded due respect, of course, but I just always envisioned someone older. Less of the heart-throb intellectual that Val Kilmer is (to me he was the best Batman) and more the older more nondescript-looking genius. Someone more like Derek Jacobi, who was Senator Gracchus in "Gladiator".

would LOVE to be an extra.
has anyone got an idea where the movie would be filmed??
probably Canada

I imagine there are a number of places it could be filmed. I mean, the scenery it describes (in the Coltaine/Chain of Dogs specific parts of the book - if I remember it well anyway.) could be in a lot of places (Scotland perhaps). But Canada I guess has the more extreme places.
Hope its England, so I can mosey down to the set and get myself a part.
