Is this a free thing? I checked out the website on my phone and it said to try the app but some of the comments said you need to pay for it to use it properly.
I'd like to learn another language at some point, I took french until grade 10 but all that knowledge is totally gone now.

Nah it's free.
The paid subscription gives you more services like keeping track of words you have struggled with and recapping them more often and a few other things, but I used the free version for a long time.

Ok I registered, my username is Gintokian. I signed up for the Japanese course, although I have no idea if I'll follow through but I'd like to try.
How do you see the leaderboards? When I click on it it just shows me.

the app is hella handy on your phone. and you can download an entire course to your phone (over wifi, they are large files) and then can work away even when you have no signal/ data

up to 4th on German 5. still 40k off 1st, don't think I'll be catching that, but if I can hold top 10 for the week I'll be happy. then set a target of breaking top 10 every week.

When I clicked on the download button it said you needed to pay to have the "Pro" subscription to download anything. Unless it uses a ton of data I should be fine though.

It's not sore in data anyway, it's more for me, I seem to end up staying in places with terrible signal and crap WiFi for work.

I'm sitting 4th (for the week on my course, German 5) heading into the weekend, I'm cautiously optimistic of staying in the top 10.
it doesn't really mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but for me it's a much better target than the daily goals. 1st place is not 70k ahead of me so I aint catching him. at this rate though top 10 for the month is actually quite achievable (not this month mind)
