I let this slide a bit for a few weeks there. two or three times I found myself with 200+ words to review (thank god for speed review on the app)

but, I'm halfway through German 6 and have gotten myself into a good routine again

but nearly at 3M points and have now learned 2000 words/phrases.

At my cousins wedding a few weeks ago, he married a German girl. I was able to follow bits a pieces of the German speeches and there was a German girl sitting beside me at the table, her English was excellent naturally but she said my German wasn't awful. she didn't say it was good though...

Nice!

I'm back to DuoLingo. Revising Hiragana before I start taking language classes at my new University.

Part of me wants to try Duolingo again, but I don't want to wade through all the beginner vocab again.

Aiming to keep up the progress and crunch German 7 out by the end of Feb

@Mac you can do a placement test that will put you somewhere past the beginning of the Duolingo tree so you don't have to wade through the basics again, I'm not sure how accurate the test is though.

Oh that's news, I might look into that. I'll see how quickly I'm getting through German 7 on Memrise then look into it

And a year on, I'm only halfway through German 7. Have only really gotten back into a routine this last week or two.

My vocabulary is now (apparently) 2500 words and phrases, still wouldn't be confident at any conversational German.

Listening to Der Hobbit still on audible, and can no keep pace with where the story is (purely down to knowledge of the story) and pick up a bit of the dialogue enough to figure who is saying roughly what (again, knowing the book inside out in English helps massively, I would be totally lost with a be a book)

That is a good way of doing it. My wife learned most of her Dutch through reading Roald Dahl and Harry Potter in Dutch after already knowing the English books practically by heart. It aids in filling the gaps and expands your vocabulary quite rapidly.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Was in Austria last weekend for a snowboarding holiday.

I was amazed by how much better my German was over last time I was in a German speaking country.

I wasn't having any conversations but I was able to follow other people on the chair lifts and had no problems nattering to bar staff who had little English. Was a massive lift to me as I had felt for a long time I was getting nowhere.
