It's probably gonna be good. Why would they make it if it wasn't good? Doesn't make sense.

The plus side: the canvas for making the show, in terms of characterization, is mostly blank with lots of room for strong storytelling.

The dark side: too much focus-group-based script writing. I suspect that making this at least partially about Galadriel's overall journey is a great idea.

I will defend SHANNARA, it was not terrible or anywhere near SEEKER bad...it had bad elements and didn't REALLY nail what makes the Shannara books so fun (and one too hard into the "This used to be our world" with the Star Trek Episode playing at a party strung with electric lights)...but my wife and I enjoyed it and the second season especially was solidly fun in a XENA sort of way.

Also, how anyone can look at what we've seen of RINGS and think it LOOKS cheap or bad...like what? It looks stunning. The story will hopefully match up, but it looks like they spent the BUDGET on it, and the WOT show suffered as a result from budget restraints.

the dialogue about darkness taking over the world just makes it sound like Generic Fantasy 101 rather than anything recognisably Tolkien.

I'll give you this, but Elrond telling Galadriel it's time to give up her sword and her saying "You've not seen what I've seen" and he's like "I've seen things" and she looks pointedly at him and repeats in a staccato "You've. Not. Seen. What. I've. Seen." overlaid on what I can only assume is the Kinslaying at Alqualonde...gave me chills.

Also letting Morfydd Clark keep her Welsh accent for Galadriel is adding something to the character for me that I REALLY like.

I'm with Tiste, I'm super exited about this.

In fairness, I agree with all of that! Her accent is lovely and big events like the Kinslaying and everything Numenor I can't help but be very excited about.

Sit down, Elrond. You've got nothing on existential horror.

Put it this way, as we are both Tolkien fans, I hope that they can deliver a show that gives us what we want without feeling too much like fan fiction? If that makes sense.

Shannara had low expectations though. I think it started on MTV and then moved to (what was at the time) the Spike network? It was terrible and bad, but a terrible and bad that was fun to watch.

We will always share the Vajgnomes, and that is a bond that can't be broken.

Well, to be fair, it would take a specific, advanced type of horrific show to even attempt to match SEEKER in sheer terribleness. Good god that show was horrific in shapes, sizes and forms.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

Why's there such a taboo against kinslaying anyway? Like, who gets on your nerves more than kin? Not bondsman to another lord 500 leagues distant, that's for sure. Kinslay away imo!

Was it just Tolkien's epic translation of "you can pick your friends, but not your relatives"?

Also, you can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose. But you probably shouldn't pick your friends' nose.

A lot of people feel lectured to on social issues when any sort of diversity is included in tv shows and movies.

This was my thought. I suspect someone is trying to dance around calling a show woke 🙄

The vocoded English vocals you mean? I don't mind the stylistic choice, but the way it's mixed does make them sound shockingly bad on my studio monitors....

'with our hearts... even bigger than our feet'... and that was the best line by far.

Not good omens....
