You stay classy, Star Wars "fans"

So just to make it clear...it's been sussed out over the last few days that whoever made this tweet, has pinned the responsibility to a group he claims belonging to (A FB group of Legends [Old Expanded Universe] fans) saying they all organized to troll Kelly Marie Tran (and Pablo Hidalgo, and Daisy Ridley). This is a lie. The FB group that the twitter account is actually associated with (which was shut down by FB for violation of T&C) is named the same thing as the twitter "Down With Disney's Treatment of Fanboys & Franchises". It's gone now.

But yeah, the FB group the tweet says is responsible "The Alliance to Preserve the Expanded Universe" (which was created right after Disney ditched old Canon and fans wanted a place to chart about it) is not responsible. It's gotten bad enough (with the mainstream media picking up the tweet and running with it) that the FB group (which does still exist as it doesn't actually violate the T&C) has had to release a statement.

Sidenote: the same vile twitter account/FB group that is ACTUALLY responsible also ran a hate/smear campaign against BLACK PANTHER in January long before taking a stab at Star Wars. And it is apparently run by a single individual who was kicked out of the Alliance FB group years ago for harassment (according to those that run the Alliance). His whole add of "Now go out there an fight for Legends" and stuff...it's all smokescreen to add to his attempt to smear the FB group he was kicked out of.

It just bothers me that this is being picked up and reported whole hog with no research by media outlets... as this blameless FB group who haven't actually done anything wrong besides liking the old canon better than new.

Anyways, whoever this twitter troll and his harassing pals are, they are their own thing and should be reported as such.

Sidenote: I dislike TLJ as much as anyone else, but harassing an actor who played a role is BEYOND idiocy. In fact, Tran did an admirable acting job in what is in my opinion a pretty lame character, and from what I've seen and heard is an absolutely amazing person who is just as nerdy as we are. So why anyone would see reason to take its issue with her for a character she played, is beyond me. I'd love to see Tran's character get some proper growth in IX and perhaps a better story arc.

Also, Sim and I just discussed this on my FB..... it's science fiction. If you don't like diversity, you're in the wrong clubhouse.

Right? It makes absolutely no sense. Science Fiction AND Fantasy are about diversity. A broader and more diverse SW galaxy is super welcome to me. Also, while we are on the subject, I still wish that Hux was Rae Sloane, who is a black female Star Destroyer commander (and a phenomenal character). We didn't need another pasty-faced British white boy military commander like Tarkin or Krennic.

True, we didn't - although to give Hux a bit of due "Do you think you got him?" does make me giggle way too much. I don't know much about the EU but Rae Sloane sounds fantastic.

She is. Probably one of the best Nu Canon inventions to be honest. She's got the military tactical sensibilities of Grand Admiral Thrawn. I wish she'd gotten live action play in the main series.

I'm not American and perhaps I'm understanding wrongly what's going on here, but I read this actress-trolling as white supremacists reaction, exactly the same when some people refused to accept Rue as black even in the book she clearly was depicted as such.

It blows my mind how some people can be perfectly accepting of a myriad of body configurations, genders, colorations, nervous systems, and other organic structures when they belong to aliens — but, when you want to change the skin color of a human, "FUCK NO THAT'S LITERALLY EVIL".

Watto is probably these people's favorite character.

That's cool. They should focus on making a movie as good as TLJ, the first and only great SW movie since Empire, for Ep IX.

I think it's a damn shame they're putting them on hold now. There were so many outside factors that caused SOLO to fail, releasing it right after infinity war & deadpool, doubling the budget (which otherwise they would have made a profit), releasing it shortly after TLJ and facing that backlash. I thought the movie itself was really good and I think they're making a big mistake putting these on hold, so many people want a Kenobi movie, they would make a killing on it.

It is a damn shame. I'm sure the fallout or at least the lack of interest is the result of how people were left feeling after tlj. Which makes it worse in a way, as those are the people who would have enjoyed it. And, given the chance to be the opening chapter in a fett/obi wan trilogy, it would have done way better given time.
So that's the story. And what was the real lesson? Don't leave things in the fridge.

Just watched Solo. It was actually better than I expected, not bad at all. Perhaps my expectations were low thanks to here and the rest of the internet.
Just goes to show I should go in with an open mind more often.

The young guy playing Han (can't recall and can't be arsed Googling) may not have been a great Harrison Ford impression (though not at all bad), but I thought he did a good job as Han Solo.

I hope they do another one. If only to see more of Chewie and Lando as well.

For sure, it was a pretty good movie, it's such a shame that it performed so poorly in the box office and they've put the future anthology movies on hold. I think the last jedi backlash is going to end up doing more damage than good since it's affecting these movies instead of the main trilogy. Such a shame.

I think, and said at the time it was announced, that a Solo prequel movie was a terrible idea anyway. Who cares how Han Solo became Han Solo? I mean, seriously, what person could possibly care enough about that to want a whole movie dedicated to it? The Star Wars universe is vast and filled with potential for stories, and that is what they went for?

I am surprised that they were surprised by the lack of interest.

I'm not sure it was lack of interest as much as disappointment with the last jedi that turned people off from a new star wars movie. Also releasing it only a few months after TLJ was dumb as well, they didn't give people time to look forward to another sw movie and get over TLJ. Plus infinity war and deadpool 2 had just come out. So I think there was a variety of factors that led to its poor box office rather than just no interest for it.

^^This

This is a huge reason for its failure. We didn't NEED a Han Solo prequel. His character, and who he is is pretty easy to suss out in ANH, and the real story about him happens in the OT (from rogue, uncaring smuggler TO helpful, commanding leader and hero)....anything in his past is just fluff really that needn't be explored. I'm unsure why Disney-LFL didn't get this.

I really enjoyed SOLO for what it was, and thought it was a fun Anthology entry. I also liked what might have been originally intended, with

Spoiler

being the overarching villain of the anthology films after this one.

But then I heard they also had a Tatooine-movie in the pipe that's now been deep sixed (Not a movie about anyone in particular, but one that the driving force is "happens on Tatooine")....so I have a feeling they REALLY don't know what they are doing...or didn't...I think ROGUE ONE being a huge success was the fluke in the Anthology films and they pushed SOLO after that because RO was so unexpectedly a hit.

Glad they've pumped the breaks now and are REALLY thinking about how to move forward instead of rushing willy-nilly with both the ST movies (AKA not having an overarching story laid out to adhere to for the trilogy, resulting in the disparate TFA and TLJ plots) and Anthology movies no one really cares about (SOLO, and the nixed Boba Fett flick, and Tatooine one).

I think Disney LFL HONESTLY thought that the SW brand was a license to print money and SW fans would go to everything. That may be the case, but like the MCU you ALSO need casual audiences to see your films too. This means you have to pay attention, plan, and focus to make a huge franchise work. They're learning that lesson the hard way now.
