OK, so I know this has now moved into the Discussion Board and such this video is probably not appropriate, but I feel like it answers - in a VERY funny way - this whole "Ooh, men aren't allowed to even talk to women any more" thing that the right wing press is pushing since all these allegations started coming out...

The Mash Report: How NOT to sexually harass someone!

You Scream

Not famous to anyone not Canadian....but Patrick Brown, leader of the Progressive Conservative party of Canada (think: our milk toast version of "family values" style Republicans who are anything BUT that...) has been accused by two women of assault, and I think at least one of them was underage.

He has stepped down from leadership of the party, but is staying as an MPP (I don't think that will last long either to be honest).

It's weird, but every time I saw a campaign commercial for this guy, he SCREAMED "slimy" to me.

Brown is leader of the Ontario PC's.

There are no federal PC's thanks to various party mergers.

Never liked the guy, but there is an election coming very soon and a LOT of Ontarians are fed up with the Liberals. So a nice big hit to our voting alternatives. Seriously, the PCs haven't had a credible leader since John Tory (who ran a bad campaign regardless and is now a mediocre mayor of Toronto).

Also, its "milquetoast".

It was early and I was typing without having had my coffee. Corrected the party name.

And I know it's milquetoast....but I like milk toast better. It's funnier. Because it makes me picture boring milk and toast (no butter).

Also, you realize this means more Wynne right? No one is voting for that bowl of oatmeal Horwath....and the PC's aren't getting a new leader up and voted for by June...Brown is plastered across ALL their media....they are done this round. Prepare for more Kathleen bloody Wynne. Sidebar: I NEVER would have voted for the PCs anyways, and I don't vote NDP....so I'm part of the problem as I'll simply vote for Wynne again....even though I don't like her much....she's the least problematic for me as a vote.

As an NDP voter, yes I consider you part of the problem.

You misunderstand me.

I vote for the platform every time. The chances the platform of either the NDP or the PCs will line up with my feelings is next to nil...and the times it's occurred in the past is almost never...I think voting in the current mayor of my city was the only time I dipped a toe into the PC waters since I was able to vote at 18.

So yeah, I'll end up voting Wynne because the Liberal platform is the one that almost always lines up with how I feel on the topics that are important to me for the province. I can dislike the leader of the Liberal party herself, and still want to vote for the platform in general. Wynne has pulled some non-party line shit in her time...affecting my city...and is also a pretty shitty pubic communicator. The party platform doesn't often waver on paper...but she's still pulled some rank shit in their name that would not fly in a campaign amongst her voters. The Libs should have chosen another leader. She's shit.

Parties NEED good leaders despite their platforms though. They are effectively being voted as the "Prime Minster of a province", Premiere is just the title that differentiates them from the actual Federal level.

And unless Caroline Mulroney and the PC's drastically change the PC platform...I'm not voting for them either and never was.

Ok, now the only problem is her party stinks, too.
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.

I'll be rather surprised if Caroline becomes leader. She's not an MPP yet and they don't really have time for a convention and a wildly new platform. I'd expect an MPP from within caucus, and the only changes within the platform to be the picture on the brochure. They don't have time for much else.

Headline makers getting a little bit snarky with the latest accused Celebrity.

My local paper has this headline today:

Quote

David Copperfield accused of rape by teen model
He couldn't make the allegations disappear

Short version of the accusation is very Cosby-esque.

Echoing headlines from 8 years ago:
'David Copperfield's Rape Investigation Vanishes - ABC News http://abcnews.go.co...tory?id=9675140 Jan 27, 2010 - It's no illusion: Lacey L. Carroll, who had accused magician David Copperfield of raping her in 2007, has been arrested in connection with another case where she alleged rape. [...] Carroll claimed she couldn't remember anything that happened after leaving the bowling alley, but when questioned by another investigator, said she "remembered taking a taxi and then coming to in a hotel with Loomis on top of her, pinning her shoulders down on a bed," according to a police statement. [...] surveillance footage apparently gave Carroll away. Cameras captured she and her male companion engaging in "normal and romantic behaviors together (including hugging, kissing and holding each other)," according to investigators, as well as video of Carroll taking the elevator by herself to the hotel room while her male friend ordered a bottle of champagne at the concierge desk.'

She plead guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence, though she continued to claim she was innocent, despite the apparent video evidence. (Though how can it be proven that she didn't black out?)

Of course, that says next to nothing about the 'new' case (which was first put forward in 2007 after the previous allegation became public), and doesn't even necessarily prove he was innocent in that case....

So far perhaps more Takei-esque than Cosby-esque.

(In theory, someone could hire multiple demonstrably false accusers to discredit unprovable genuine accusations, provided they knew they could avoid prison time with a plea bargain, as Copperfield's previous accuser did. Though it's extremely unlikely that anything like that happened in the Copperfield case....

As an extremely wealthy master illusionist, he also could have hired the second man she accused to drug her and rape her, while having previously created doctored security camera footage which was switched out for the actual security cam footage before the police got hold of it---perhaps that's how she maintains her innocence despite the videos. Not impossible....)

Casino Mogul Steve Wynn

The Wynn case will bear watching as it is part of a nasty stock fight with his ex, and also because he has several Las Vegas projects scheduled to kick off in the near future. If the allegations get deep enough to affect his brand or force him to step aside, that will have a big impact on the face of that city now and in the future.

Yah, this is one that might have a much larger ripple effect. He's a powerful dude and there are dozens of corroborators. Looks like too many news outlets are focusing primarily or even solely on his company's stock drop, but that's another issue.

Anyway, I post this link only because the WSJ is behind a paywall for me and maybe others: https://www.vox.com/...duct-republican

The stock drop is in itself important, because that will quantify the pressure on him to step away.

There is a lot tied up in both his name and his reputation as a visionary developer/operator, so that is one company that would not see a quick move to dump him. But either mass departure of business, or a complete stock tank job are the things that could maybe get things going enough to push him out.

It's an important test: will #MeToo also bring down Republicans and avowed Trump supporters? Or will they be more like Trump himself? Will financial losses be enough to force them to step down (or into the shadows)? Do "conservatives" believe that sort of behavior is okay (without sex work being legalized...)---at least so long as Trump's their head? And will "religious conservatives" rationalize it away in Trumpian terms ("he's like King David", Prosperity gospel means Jesus says he's the boss (render unto Caesar what is Caesar's---not counting murder and revolution), God gave him the name Win so he must be a Winner, blah blah blah).

"In 2017, Wynn was named the Republican National Committee's finance chair. Wynn said that Trump personally asked him to take the job."

Yah I agree with you, and in a way I expected this angle from CNBC and Fox Business, but like the LA Times mentions the stocks in its headline and very first line (LINK). Like as the main takeaway. Anyway, it was just a complaint about the thrust of the bulk of coverage which is generally different from your overall point, which I agree with. Your point is this sleazebag has a lot of power and influence in this megacorporation and city, and his actions are going to have potentially vast repercussions for all. The coverage is more like "can you believe what this monster did to those poor stockholders?!"
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Fake wrestling president and vocal Trump supporter Vince McMahon:

https://www.thedaily...rugged?ref=home

His wife is 'chief of the Small Business Administration for President Donald Trump'.

McMahon reaffirmed his devotion to Trumpian politics recently when he said that his resurrected XFL league, a dumbed-down version of US o An football, will have "no kneeling, no criminals" (dogwhistle?)... it has been described as 'an NFL for Trump supporters':

Same goes for Hillary Clinton (as enabler), I'd suppose:

'Hillary Clinton personally protected a senior adviser on her 2008 campaign who was accused of repeated sexual harassment, according to a New York Times report on Friday.

[...] Clinton's support in 2008 meant he got a cushy gig five years later leading pro-Clinton superPAC Correct the Record. The Times reports that he was soon fired for "workplace issues," including (you guessed it!) alleged harassment of a young woman on staff. '

Yes sir. When the women came out in the 90s accusing Horny Billy of his misdeeds, she portrayed herself as a "I'm not a Tammy Wynette, stand by your man woman". True, but you are self serving asshole who was protecting your future aspirations scum bag.

It's funny to see how these sorts of behaviors are really embedded in their DNA and so repeat themselves.

Wynn just resigned as RNC Finance Chair. (Incidentally, his original last name was 'Weinberg'---like the way 'Drumpf' became 'Trump'....)

Wonder what would happen if Trump directly came out in support of sexual harassment and declared he would try to appoint judges who see it as some sort of first amendment right.

Watched the ESPN E60 report about Nassar and the Michigan State Basketball and Football programs. Fuck that was some disturbing shit. And made me angry as hell. Worth watching, but be forewarned, it has some very upsetting content. Also, don't watch if you don't want your groove to be messed with.

Every single person remotely involved in that organization should be fired and publicly shamed. There is no way. None. That he was able to do what he did for so long without the people around him and in the administration knowing what was going on. Perhaps many simply chose not to see it, but that is no less of a moral failing and a crime.
