I have this issue as well. For some reason, I still look forward to each episode. It just pushes all those nostalgia buttons for me. Which is weird, because I can just jump on Netflix and watch TNG or DS9 whenever I want, but I choose to wait for new episodes of The Orville.

S02E06 is such a great example of the emotional depth of this show, as well as its adherence to the principles of original Treks (and I like Discovery a lot, not subtly ragging on it here). The main plot arc is something they've been hinting at for the last several episodes, showing surprisingly complex plotting for a show so episodic.

Powerful look at what it means to be alive in this episode.

My first instinct as the captain would be to leave my ship to go demand answers from a race of technologically advanced cyborgs.

The CGI budget must have gotten a huge bump this season. Some of those cut scenes were amazing.

Both parts of that story would be the LIONS share of the budget for the season. By a long stretch. Even the shots of Orville in the clouds were GORGEOUS. Then the space battle in Part 2? You can tell why the other episodes of the season were largely ship based.

Also, that was EASILY the match for the Battle at Wolf 359 from TNG, especially with the Kalon acting like the Borg.

I thought that was the season finale but there are two eps left!

apparently a large portion of the krill fleet is only hours from striking earth. Earth is nevertheless apparently only lightly defended.

Apparently the union would need weeks to recall the whole fleet. Kaylon is also apparently only hours from earth.

Kaylons are one of of the most advanced races in the galaxy, they don't have wifi. They don't know when their troops are killed in the cargo hold?

The Krill come at Warp from their own space (which as far as I know is next to Union space as the closest non-ally territory), as that is where Grayson and Gordon go to get them in the shuttle. We don't know the time it took them to come, but a few hours at warp seems fine to me to get to earth from their own space.

It's defended well enough, but the fleet is recalled because this is the Kaylon...a species who they fear more than even the Krill, because they know so little about them and know how xenophobic they are. The Admiral is being cautious.

The fleet is spread across the entire galaxy, far flung places could be weeks out even at warp.

I'm not sure where you get this information to be honest. We are given no timeframe from when the Kaylon steal the Orville and leave their homeworld till they reach earth...Earth only gets word WELL into the journey when Yafit and Ty send the message. So it could be weeks and we don't know.

In part 1 wasn't there specific mention that it was a couple weeks trip there? when they were about to leave i mean, a scene with the admiral where he mentions it's too far out for the Union to be of any help should it go wrong

I believe you are right. They had The Orville refitted before leaving, because it was such a long journey.
