Netflix is a solid choice for where to do a show about this. Exciting!

I like Hamill as a voice actor but on screen he just doesn't do it for me. I don't think the guy has a lot of charisma. Neither when he was young or now in his older age. I'd prefer somebody more talented and in better shape to play a grizzled warrior.

But Vesemir is old and fat.

Don't know how Vesemir is portrayed in the books but in the games he's hale enough to go monster hunting and carries himself like he could still chop his way through a platoon of soldiers.

Mark Hamill looks like a bag of potatoes that was left out in the sun too long. Mind you, I haven't seen the latest Star Wars film. Don't know if he got in shape for that one.

They'd need to do it properly and not skip stuff because of cost. I'd watch it

Big news!

The Witcher Season 1 will consist of 8 episodes, will adapt the first two books (THE LAST WISH and SWORD OF DESTINY) and will probably air in early 2020 (cannily between the last season of GAME OF THRONES and the first of FRANKLY UNNECESSARY LORD OF THE RINGS TV SHOW WHAT THE HELL AMAZON). It will also film in Eastern Europe, predominantly in Poland, where the books were written.

He also constantly complains of his age and tells Geralt that he's feeling the years now.

That's a pretty strong choice. I like it.

You know what? I agree!

I mean, it's unexpected, but Cavill is a good actor. So yeah, I agree, a strong choice.
Screw you all, and have a nice day!

I don't like it. Nothing against Cavill as an actor, but he's not right for the Geralt role, imo. Maybe I'll be proven wrong.

Well, yeah. It's a terrible choice.

I'd want to see Dijkstra as Ciri, personally. Galaxy brain casting on my part.

I don't think I've ever sat reading something quite so wide-eyed at the breadth of reaction.

If people are prepared to argue against whitewashing (and I believe they should - see Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One etc.) then it's a touch hypocritical for those same people to be yelling "racism" when people point out that the characters are described as white, and that it's a piece of Polish culture (I wasn't aware of that - but my awareness was purely of the game series).

Having said that though, the same crowd went bananas over black Hermione and then toddled off and got over it - does someone who knows the stories better than me want to wade in on whether this will have impact on them?

To my eye, it's a case of the series developers trying to appear "woke", which is very important to the kids these days. TW is almost entirely based on Polish folklore. I can't remember how Ciri is described in the books as such but really that's what they should be aiming for. Adaptations that change things purely to appease demographics irk me to no end (and before anyone brings up GITS, Motoko is described in the source material as modified to not look Asian, so a bad example).

Just seems odd to me. Is it a big deal, I guess not but given the games (if you have seen them its hard to unsee them) and how I have always interpreted the books it just seems unnecessary. It feels forced rather than natural. However if the author says he always meant for their to be diverse people in his works well you cant really argue with him. Bad writing that he was just too lazy to get the point across though.

That said you have to be wary of these conversations. I still remember peope being pissed when they cast a black actress to play a black character in hunger games. The books clearly said she was black but too many people glossed over it and just pictured what they felt comfortable with and then got upset when the movies stayed true to source. Their are people who just want accuracy and don't need unnecessary 'wokeness' as it was called above and then their are racists! They are out there, they often don't know it and they often sound reasonable but really they are motivated by racism.
