The BLACK COMPANY dark fantasy book series by Glen Cook has been optioned for TV by a production team led by David Goyer (the writer of Chris Nolan's DARK KNIGHT trilogy) and Eliza Dushku (ex-TRU CALLING/BUFFY/DOLLHOUSE). No network interest yet, but the project is being shipped around.
Obviously, THE BLACK COMPANY was a massive influence and inspiration on the MALAZAN books, so this is really a quite interesting development.

Who ever plays Croaker is a lucky, lucky guy.
Trouble arrives when the opponents to such a system institute its extreme opposite, where individualism becomes godlike and sacrosanct, and no greater service to any other ideal (including community) is possible. In such a system rapacious greed thrives behind the guise of freedom, and the worst aspects of human nature come to the fore....

We've been talking about this in the Ye Big TV thread a bit. I hope it gets picked up by a good network or company...

It's gonna be 50 9-minute episodes on Crackle.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

There are 3 characters that I can't wait to see casting choices for: Goblin, One-Eye, and The Limper. The casting of the Company mages in particular have the potential to make or break this entire project imho.

The series is chock-full of great characters that will be interesting to see cast if it comes around to it. Lady, Darling, Raven, Narayan Singh. Excited to see how they handle the Deceivers if they get into the Books of the South, my favourite part of the series by far, and a fascinating historical phenomenon that's been largely ignored in cinema to my knowledge (other than The Deceivers movie which was pretty bleh, but hey my dad liked it).

This is the best news ever.
The show could be absolutely fantastic even if it failed and i'm really REALLY sure it wont.
Excellent news!

I am pretty sure that announcements like, the discovery of Penicilin or the end of WW2 should be higher on your list of "best news ever".

I was really hoping for a Sanjay Bhansali-style Bollywood adaptation of this, but I guess this is a good second choice, too.

Why?
Please describe what that description means other than something completely alien to Glen Cook's depiction.

Just cuz Cook didn't describe all the singing and dancing, like Tolkien would have, doesn't mean there wasn't any.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

That was an actual question. I have no idea what that statement meant other than "Bollywood" which is not that much more information.

The discovery of penicillin was an incredibly smart but somewhat untidy person paying attention to an accident/clinical hygiene misnomer and piecing it all together.
The end of WW2 did infact denote the advent of atomic bombs, something we're so used to living in fear of we've learnt to accept the dread and panic as the sort of background radiation of daily living in modern times resorting to a culture of "screw it" we could die tomorrow so like here's an awesome selfie of me with my best friends cat...
I'll take the option of escape into a TV adaptation of one of my favorite stories over both, its a no brainer.

Plus at most those events would classify as the best 'olds' ever, not the best news. Happened ages ago as far as my limited historical knowledge goes.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

Fuck you.
I'm serious. Fuck you.
She offered an opinion and it's an unconventional one, but it does make a certain kind of sense.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali makes very high level Bollywood movies. They're gorgeous, usually stuffed full of pathos, and brilliant performances that move beyond the usual silly romantic musical modality of big budget Bollywood.
Instead of being a jerk about this, watch one of his movies, expose yourself to more of what this world has to offer, and be less dismissive of an entire non-Western industry's subdivisions.

Come on, Amph. More sugar, less fire. As you yourself state, a bollywood "style" Black Company adaption would be unconventional. Hooser describes that as Alien to Cook's depection of the universe in which Black Company takes place. I don't find that opinion that sensational.
Bollywood is more or less synonymous with over the top dramatic love stories and B-movie special effects. I just googled some trailers for this Bhansali guy and I certainly don't see this guy doing the books justice. His films look like the Indian version of Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch.

Ok. Fuck me I guess.
I asked a question to be informed as to why it would work. Didn't seem the right feel for a serious work from what exposure I've seen; I asked the question.
