I guess Hardhome implies that wights have to be deliberately raised, though before that I considered it a more general risk of being dead north of the Wall.

Another thought, doing a little mixing and matching between book & show: book Quaithe is around longer and offers much more thorough prophecy, including that line about who Dany should beware (kraken, dark flame, mummer's dragon, griffon, lion, etc.). The main assumption was that the lion meant Tyrion, since he's closest. But if Dany is joining forces with Cersei to fight the White Walkers, then Cersei may very well be the lion in the books too. I mean it's a little more obvious that Cersei would betray Dany, but it's less obvious that they would team up at all.
They came with white hands and left with red hands.

Yeah, like I said a few posts back, I'm on season 6. I should catch up by the next episode.

Oh, right. I did actually notice a sniff when I watched that episode, which was before I watched last night's episode, but it wasn't as obvious.

Forgive me if this already came up, but it just occurred to me that this zombie hunt magnificent seven trip is EXACTLY how they're getting the Hound back to King's Landing for Clegane Bowl.

I think he lives. I mean it's fun to think of zombie vs. zombie but ultimately the right decision is a Hound who's completely cognizant of what he's doing.

Hmm.
I know I was criticising it last year a tad much (Varys back and forth in the finale), but I suppose I just have to go with the absurd Game of Thrones teleportation now. The problem is, it just makes the White Walkers hilariously slow. The show has not suggested that the WW are "waiting", just that they are marching on the Wall.
Does marching = waiting?

(The map isnt completely accurate I think. We dont know where the 3-eyed Raven Cave was that the NK attacked, but I assume not in the uttermost North)

You'd think Gendry is there to rediscover Valyrian steel at some point, weird they are making him a fighter.

He IS Robert's son and Robert was the hardest man in the whole of Westeros, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

The answer is simple. They got lost in the woods.

I mean if the Jews could wander around in a desert for 40 years, well then...

The map isn't accurate at all, as far as I can tell. As you say, after the Hardhome events the White Walkers went after Bran and the three-eyed raven, who can be anywhere really but it is not unlikely that it will be either more centrally in the northern wastes or even to the west. On top of that they probably have to trek around to raise zombies all over the place to add to their numbers before they can march south. Still, they do move very slow compared to some other characters. Euron and his fleet are the most insane movers, although there is some basis in the books that he has 'magic' ways of making his ships go stupidly fast. Although the tv show doesn't seem to address this, it makes the murderous sailing speeds a bit less painful to watch.
Yesterday, upon the stair, I saw a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. Oh, how I wish he'd go away.

They could justify the white walker delay by suggesting they need to advance only when true winter takes hold.

Not to mention the huge risk it would be to take one of your 3 greatest assets and risk them on an unnecessary expedition without any scouting, backup, or preparation. It's not like there are just wild wights wandering white wildernesses without. Wights walk with Whitey's warhost.

It goes even past that. Consider all the conversations with her advisors about using dragons ....

They have not completely spelled out limitations and all 3 dragons fought in Mereen, but the thought remains that she has to be there. Drogon seems ok with Jon, but no one knows he can ride a dragon yet and if he could Dany would see it as a threat anyway. She can't just say "go fetch me a wight" to Drogon in Valyrian. If he is going to dragon-nap a wight, she has to risk herself.
Tatts early in SH game: Hmm, so if I'm liberal I should have voted Nein to make sure I'm president? I'm not that selfish

Tatts later in SAME game: I'm going to be a corrupt official. I have turned from my liberal ways, and now will vote against the pesky liberals. Viva la Fascism.
When Venge's turn comes, he will get a yes from Mess, Dolmen, Nevyn and Venge but a no from the 3 fascists and me. **** with my Government, and i'll **** with yours

Yes, but he is also the only smith who is a main character, vs a lot of characters who fight. And is not really super likely to suddenly become one of the kings.

He is dead meat. SO totally utterly going to die. The only way he could be more likely to die is if he were a visible minority.
I'm figuring only Jon, Jorah and maybe the Hound are going to make it back.

As to that, Jorah's "goodbye" scene to Dany was too telling to be blasé. He's not coming back. He got himself saved from grayscale only to die with some of the GOT-Suicide Squad north the wall (heroically of course).

Oh, and you can BET money that Tormund makes it back. They've fed a LOT into his whole "Mmmmm, I likes me some Brienne" not to continue that plot line methinks.

So probably Jon, and Tormund and The Hound...unless they want to pull a "Cleganebowl ISN'T happening y'all!" on everyone...in which case maybe a BwB makes it back...possibly Paul Kaye's character?

Pretty sure I read something where B&W said fans were going to be disappointed on that front. That's why some in this thread were worried Tormund was going to die this week.

Possible, but I don't think so.

There is no reason Thoros and Beric can't die. Fulfilling this quest could be their point in the story, particularly if Beric passes his gift along.

Jorah also can die. Redeeming himself in the North. In death, he could really change Dany's priorities. In life ... just another soldier and advisor at this point. He is the perfect death to make the quest HURT.

Tormund could die, but there are issues. The biggest problem with killing him isn't Brienne, it is that he is really the only visible representative left of the Wildling army. If they kill him they have to introduce another wildling character.

The Hound absolutely could die. His only presumed need later in the story is for Cleganebowl Which would be fun but is not necessary. He saw this quest in the flames, and ask Stannis how seeing things in the flames works out for you. And again, another death to make this meaningful and painful for fans.

Gendry CAN die, but there isn't much point. They used a fair bit of screen time bringing him back just to be a disposable quest member, and the sacrificing to save others set up probably isn't quite right. Jon is mining dragonglass but has not started making weapons yet, and Gendry is a smith who is in prime position to see dragonglass and/or Valyrian steel kill a walker. He also can have some future story value in further undermining Cersei's already weak claim to the throne, if he can be quantified as a Baratheon.

Maybe if the Hound is killed off, he could be raised as a Wight, and they bring Undead Wight Hound back to Kings Landing.
That accomplishs two things:
1: Cersei gets her proof.
2: The Cleganebowl can become Undead Wight Hound versus Kidna-Undead Mountain when Cersei orders the Mountain to kill it.

Problem solved.
